Wish List: All about Anthro

The Wish list is all about Anthropologie today. I swear I tried to mix it up. I looked and looked through several other sites but couldn’t come up with a single thing I wanted from another retailer. So, on with the Anthro love!

At first glance these Chie’s don’t look like much. A taupe sandal, meh.

OOTD: Polaire vest

A little treat was waiting for me after my dentist appt on Friday. I had all four wisdom teeth removed, so a little gifty was in order!

I was pleased to see that the Anthro vest was in prefect condition. Not some crummy return, as can happen when things pop back from the warehouse depths *cough talkingaboutyoujcrew cough*

I first tried the vest on with my bootcut Paige jeans thinking I’d need the leg flare to even out the width at the hips. But the outfit felt a bit heavy. So I swapped for black M+O skinny jeans and a dark top. Much better. I would like to switch the grey belt for one in black I think..The belt I posted about in my last batch of Anthro reviews is lingering in my mind.
PS- My appt went well, Dr. did a great job, but I’m still a little chipmunk cheeked lol.

Wearable Runway: Spring 2010

I’ve come to terms with the fact that I am never going to own the newest hot designer ready to wear. I don’t have that kind of money.  Sure I could save up and buy one or two covetable pieces per season but meh,  I’m just not a saver. I’d rather wait until the trends trickle down to affordable shops. So while I’m not shopping the runway, I still like to look for inspiration. Peer closely at the styling and you can often come up with no purchase required tweaks that will make last year’s pieces look fresh.

Here are my favorite looks from Spring 2010’s Ready to Wear collections and the wearable in real life ideas I drew from them…

QOTD: Closet organization

Today’s Question of the Day comes from JKW.

She asks:
Hi Shannon! You know I’m a big fan of your blog. The Q & A is a great idea! I’d like to ask you about storage — how utterly exciting…NOT! I have a huge problem when it comes to having enough space for my clothes. (Well, I suppose the “real” problem is that I buy too much clothing, LOL!)Do you have one of those closet organizer systems? Do you have a “method” for hanging, folding, etc? What works for you? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi JKW, thanks for your question! I wish I could say I have a fantastically organized closet but the truth is I have the same problem as you lol. I have a teeny little house complete with minuscule sliding door closets. I share a closet with dh, so the only option I have for more space is to intrude on his side. Although he is fond of keeping his clothes on the floor, I think he’d be a little upset if I booted him out completely.

Poll: Which topics interest you?

I feel like I could use a little reader feedback once again. I hope you don’t mind sharing your thoughts with me :)

Since starting the blog I’ve posted on some topics regularly, like my Anthropologie reviews. Other topics I’ve posted on and off: make up, sale codes, shopping picks. But it can be difficult to tell if anyone is really interested in reading these posts. The only way I have to tell if a topic interests readers is by the comments left. But only about 1% or less of the blog readers are leaving a comment. I’m not sure why the comments are so low.. Maybe it’s because the wordpress comment layout is different than the blogspot blogs?

Anyway, on one hand I am going to of course write about whatever topic strikes my fancy at the time. No sense in forcing a post on something I am meh about. But there are times when I am hesitant to spend the time writing something that no one is interested in chatting about. For example, I’ve been thinking about writing a wearable looks from the Spring runway post and a series on favorite beauty products.

To help me figure out which topics are worth perusing and which not, I’ve put together a quick poll. I hope you’ll take a minute and just check off each topic that interests you.

___________

A quick clarification on a couple of the topics listed:

(Feel free to skip this if you do not need further explanation)

Current retail discount codes- These are the standard codes available by retailers that you get via email or are available on other sites. If I get a special tip or promo code for readers, I would of course post it.

New retail releases- A post covering my thoughts or favorites from the new items available on J.Crew, Anthro, and other websites. (Not irl reviews) Since this is covered on other blogs I’ve been hesitant about rehashing

My wishlist-My personal want list. May be somewhat random items, one or many.

Themed shopping lists and picks- Some of my fav items from various sites usually in a theme or outfit sets. Similar to the Valentine’s day post a couple days ago.

Runway picks and trends: Highlighting my favorite items from the runway and the trends

Styling ideas from the runway and web- Styling ideas for a specific piece of clothing using runway and/or catalog/web photos.

Book reviews and reading lists- What I’m reading, what I want to read next. Short reviews of what I just read.

Vegetarian recipes & food photos- My fav vegetarian recipes. Most can be easily converted for meat eaters. With pics.

Outfit Redux- Readers share their ideas on how I could style an old item from my closet. Follow up post with results

Misc life ramblings by moi- Musings on the nature of the universe or whether or not I should buy that pair of shoes.

Shopping & wardrobe planning- Building, shopping, and organizing  the prefect wardrobe. Reader input certainly needed as I am still learning myself!

How I wore it redux: Denim swing skir

Big thanks to the ladies who left comments in my Redux post a few days ago! I used Meli’s idea of belting over a thick knit sweater plus Emily’s and Cloggy’s striped shirt suggestions and came up with this

Come to momma!

Monday night is the Anthro sale stalk. I live on the west coast though, so usually miss out on the real gems because the site updates after I go to bed. Still, I always keep an eye on the Fresh Cuts. Tonight I was checking my wishlist on my Iphone when what do my wondering eyes see….The Polaire vest….marked down….in my size. I was so excited I was almost in shock lol.

Some of you ladies may remember I tried this vest on back in Oct. It is a unique design not for every one but I loved it. Unfortunately, the one that turned up in my store was worn and returned. The buttons and pleats were jacked up and there for I had to let it go.

Here’s my pic from back in Oct

polairvest1

I don’t know why I love this vest so much. It just feels me. I am positively giddy that I could grab it on sale. Please Sale Gods let it ship! Now I just hope I can work it into an easy to wear outfit. If you have any styling ideas I would LOVE to hear them.

I’ll be gone in the AM, working in my dd’s Kindergarten class. But post and let me know if you snag any goodies out of Anthros new markdowns!

PS-My shoe savings is shot to hell this week lol

Hair: Big tease

Today I decided to try to recreate this updo from Anthropologie’s Oct catalog.

anthroOct

Well I didn’t want quite this much cone head at the back lol. I was going for an everyday version. Dh bought this headband for me for Xmas. So I had tried this look before but when I hair was long, it was much too heavy and I couldn’t get anywhere close to the volume needed. The shorter cut and layers I have now worked much better.

hotd13010

Better, but still not enough volume. I used a small bristle brush to tease. My stylist recommended buying a small, harsh, cheap looking brush. Like something you’d find in the bottom of your grandma’s purse. I don’t think I was brutal enough with the teasing though. And I always wimp out on the hairspray.

Have you tried a similar teased updo? Have any tips or tricks on creating volume?
