Merino rose cardigan

The Merino Rose cardigan is a new item on JCrew.com. This cardigan runs true to size. It fits like many of the past merino cardigans, fitted in the arms and shoulders, cut straight through the waist. (It may run a little bit slimmer than the Tartine cardigan.) The Rose cardigan hits at the lower waist, right were my pants begin. The fabric is featherweight merino, so it is not a cardigan for keeping warm outdoors. Also, since it is very fitted in the arms, a light weight tee or tank is all that fits under easily. You may want to size up if you like a looser fit. It seems like a cardigan that would be better suited for a Spring release but I love it none the less. It is currently available in limited colors: black, navy, light pewter, snow, and plum. I ordered the plum and it is gorgeous. At $70 less, this is a great alternative to the cashmere plum cardigan .

There are two chiffon roses on the right shoulder. The upper rose is larger and floppier. The lower, smaller and more structured. The roses have an unfinished edge, so I will be hand washing this cardigan, gently to prevent fraying. JCrew recommends dry cleaning.
Retail description:So sweet, with a delicate floral accent—we’re positive you’ll love this ladylike cardigan as much as we do. Featherweight merino wool in a 14-gauge knit with chiffon flower detail. Crewneck. Three-quarter sleeves. Hits at hip. Import. Dry clean. $98.00

I like this cardigan but if i think about it without the cute roses, it seems kinda plain. Then being lightweight, for me its value is more around $60 or less.

I bet the plum is very pretty though. What a great color!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Cleo! I agree a little something more on this cardi would have made it really stand out. I put the $78 value because that is what I paid for it with the Privatesale 20% off and I am in love with that plum. However, I wouldn’t pay that much for a second one :)

Then again, I’m a fool for roses, rosettes, and ruffles on sweaters. I bought two cashmere cardigans with rosettes, almost the same color; the tissue tee with rosette-looking appliqué; the primrose cardigan (both colors); and a few tartine cardigans.

Don’t be surprised if i report back that i’ve purchased this cardigan in plum. :)

I bought several flower pins this week at various locations and am putting them on my own plain cardigans…instant update for a lot less!

    Hi Shannon,

I ended up purchasing the cardigan in pewter. I liked the versatility of this color as well as the contrasting rosettes. The plum was a bit too much on the red side for my tastes. I prefer a deeper color.

    Yay for rosettes :D
Hmm now I am tempted to get the pewter. I can see how it will go with everything and balance out bright tops. I must be good and wait for a mark down though.
