I visited my J.Crew store this weekend to check out the 40% off sale and new arrivals. I didn’t find anything interesting on sale and my store did not have all the newest items. But I did have a chance to try on a couple of things..
City cardigans: I saw the Chiffon-bow city tee cardigan and I was not crazy about the bow. It looked a bit like crepe paper and was very flat. Perhaps, they had just unpacked the cardis and the bow needed a little fluffing.
I tried on the Grosgrain-bow city tee cardigan it fit true to size and was very comfortable. The cardigan was fitted in the arms and shoulders (not a lot of room for long sleeves underneath) and hit at the waist. I liked the beautiful glass buttons but it took me about 15 minutes to get the cardigan unbuttoned. I know many people are loving these cardigans. I can see why but I have so many lightweight cardigans right now, I didn’t feel tempted to bring these home with me.
Merino Paige jacket- I was very eager to see this sweater. Online it looked like the kind of thing you would grab almost every day but I was disappointed with it in real life. The jacket could be great on the right figure but not on me. The problem I had with it is, I have narrow shoulders and a large bust for my frame. Because the jacket is double breasted and is cut straight, it hung right off my chest and looked very full in the waist. Pretty much like a sack. If I had wider shoulders and/or a smaller chest, I think the Paige sweater would have been really cute.
Double-serge pencil skirt- I really liked this skirt. I tried on the Black and saw the Ochre and Bright blue. The Ochre was a tiny bit too brown for my taste. I thought is would be closer to Honey glaze but I guess that’s why it’s called Ochre and not Honey glaze lol. The farbic was a nice Fall/Winter weight, some what thick without being heavy. The skirt sits low on the waist and fits true to size. It hit right below my knee. I would want to get it hemmed about an 1 1/2. If you want to wear it higher on the waist like the J.Crew models seem to, you may try sizing down.
Heavy-wool piqué Felicia coat- I looked at the Felicia coat on a previous visit and mentioned here that I did not like the very plastic buttons. I still don’t like the buttons but I do like the shape, so I tried it on this time. I took the 0 and I would say the coat fits true to size. However, I need a petite. The fit was a little too long and too wide. I’m not crazy about the Rhubarb on this coat. The fabric makes it look a little washed out. I do like the Felicia quite a bit though and I may consider purchasing if they release more colors.
Classic peacoat- I loved, LOVED this coat in the catalog. The purple is just gorgeous in the photos! Unfortunately, my store only had black. Also, unfortunate is the coat trying to swallow me whole. I tried on the XS and it is just too much. I wouldn’t say that it runs big.. The petite may have fit. The problem with this jacket, for me, is that there is so much going on. The large collar, gobs of buttons and shoulder do-dads are overwhelming. Also, there is a lot of fabric and it sits way out in front of my stomach. In my opinion this coat is beautiful but needs someone with broader shoulders or more height than I can muster.

awesome reviews. I like the “real life” pics!
Your reviews are excellent Shannon, and the *real life* pics are great!
Thank you!
Thanks ladies. Hopefully, I can get better pics next time. I had the flash turned off so I wouldn’t attract attention lol.
I know, right? I can just see a SA knocking on the door during a “shoot.” I am sure lots of folks do it though…….
ps. Shannon, I love the pic by your name. That is my FAVORITE outfit from last year. I wear all those things (not the hat) together all the time! It makes me smile to look at it, and that is my fave jcrew model too.
I was complaing to dh about the blurry pics and he said I should bring the camera stand next time..and maybe some lights…and those big umbrellas. Can you imagine LOL
It really is to their advantage when people do take pics I think. I’m not ready to buy a coat yet but I keep thinking about the Felicia because I have those pics to ponder
I know, it such a cute pic! I have the sweater and some cords almost that color. I need the necklace though lol!
LOL, LOL!! I can’t believe you took the photo’s in the dressing room. You are my new hero! Bravo for taking the time to take pictures. It actually helps ALOT to see it on a real person. You made my day!! I’m smiling at the dedication the Aficionada’s show in trying to be helpful to each other!
I am awaiting the arrival of the Paige sweater jacket. I tried it on in store in L and it was a bit snug but I otherwise liked it on me. So I ordered it in an XL and it is on backorder until next week. I am hoping it works out alright. But I am doubting myself because there was no one there to evaluate it with me except the SA.
Tigs- I’m glad the pics are helpful
Jacquelyn-If you felt good in the Paige, I’m sure it looked great. Don’t doubt yourself! It didn’t work for me but I know it will be cute on others. I hope you’ll share your thoughts when it arrives!
Where are the IRL pics–I don’t see them? Thanks!
Hi covert, I took them down because I didn’t want to leave pics of myself up indefinitely
I tried on the peacoat today. I LOVED it! I did have to size down (which surprised me) and I do have broad shoulders. I had to try on the ivory, but I would love to buy the plum. However, I can’t and won’t pay full price. Especially since I live in a climate that doesn’t warrant this coat. I mean, I’d wear it, but I don’t need that heavy of a coat except for maybe 3 mornings a year. That said, the plum is on waitlist and there only seem to be 44 left.
So, unless they get more in after a markdown, I won’t be owning this beautiful coat.
Wow they are going fast! I wonder if Jcrew will produce more since it is still early in the season
