Chiffon rosette belt

The Chiffon rosette belt is currently $38.00 on J.Crew.com but several stores have it marked down to $9.99 with an additional 25-40% off. I purchased 5 of these belts (yes 5, don’t laugh I couldn’t decide which color not to get) earlier this week thanks to the tip by a kind poster on the Aficionada blog. Each belt is a combination of grosgrain polyester ribbon and a layered chiffon flower. The ribbon ends are all heat sealed, so they will not fray, but the chiffon rosette edges are unfinished. I will be storing these in tissue paper to prevent additional fraying of the flowers.

The ribbon ties on this belt have been left quite long. I can wrap it around my back, to the front again and still have some ribbon left to tie. If I ever decide to trim the ribbon, It should be easy enough to reseal the ends with a lighter. (Run a lighter along the edge of the ribbon quickly and carefully to just melt the ends. Keep the lighter away from the chiffon rosette though!) The ribbon loop and rosette tend to flop over a bit, especially when worn through belt loops. I will use a bit of double sided fashion tape to keep it up and in place.

The Rosette belt is available in the 4 colors listed online as well as at least 2 in store only combinations. Fuchsia pink with an ivory flower (love this one) and Bright peacock with a Navy flower.

Retail description: Pretty as a Paris street, poly with a hand-assembled chiffon flower. Felt backing. Tie closure. Import. This belt is as delicate as it is lovely—please do not wash it. 72″L x 3/8″W. $38.00

Solid opaque tights

I purchased J.Crew’s solid opaque tights in Honey glaze. I’m buying Honey glaze everything this season :D . The tights fit true to size on me. The material is a litte bit thinner than my Hue tights. I think because the J. Crew tights have a 90/10% nylon spandex mix and the Hue have 87/13%. I can see through the tights very slightly around the knees. I did not have any snags while putting them on but they are thin enough that I have to watch out for my rings.

Like most tights you may want to size up for a more opaque look. Unfortunately, the tights only come in two sizes: Small/medium and Medium/long. Small/medium is listed as fiting 5’1″- 5’7″ 95-145lbs. Medium/long fits 5’7″-6’0″ 145-175lbs. Personally, if I was any taller than 5’5″ I would size up to the Medium/long unless I had very thin legs. I think J.Crew would be wise to add an additional size option on their tights.
I should also mention, these are not tights that will keep you warm in the winter. With cold weather coming up fast I was expecting these to be a little thicker. But the lighter weight means I can wear them through Spring.

The Honey Glaze is a saturated color but it is not garish, neon, or too young. I like these tights best with a pencil skirt and heels. I have thick calf paranoia, so I won’t try to pull off the Honey Glaze with flats. But I think anyone with nice legs could.

Felted wool mini

J.Crew’s wool felted mini runs true to size. I am 5’4″ and this skirts hits 3 1/2″ above my knee. The perfect short but not too short length for me. It has two side pockets that sit nice and flat. I am really happy with this skirt. I didn’t hesitate to pay full price for it because it’s a flattering staple that I can wear for years. I purchased it in a Flannel Grey shade which is an in store only color. The material is a wool cashmere mix that is very soft and cozy. The inside is fully lined in poly satin.

Retail Description:Short and chic in soft, lofty wool/polyamide/cashmere. Sits lower on waist. Zip fly. Fully lined. 16″ long. Import. Dry clean. $98.00 See this item at JCrew.com

Inspiration: A-line Skirts

J.Crew is offering some cute A-line skirts this season. The Belle skirt is available is several colors and fabrics; cotton, silk and floral prints. Unfortunately, the cotton Belle I tried on, ran big and was overwhelming on my small frame. But all is not lost, I recently received another great A-line, the Chambray swing skirt. I ordered it back in June. It was back ordered then and by July I had given up on receiving one. Low and behold it showed up in my mailbox in Sept. I was pleasantly surprised but thought to myself, now what? Since I ordered it in June my only outfit plans included a tank and sandals. I went online, to Style.com, looking for a little inspiration. Of course runway looks can be a bit over the top for every day life but I found some gorgeous silhouettes that I can re-work for my lifestyle. I hope these looks give you some fresh wardrobe ideas as well.
