You know I have been dying for a 20% off code to pick up one of the many online only cashmere sweaters I am coveting. So, when the 20% sweater sale email came through to my inbox this morning, I snatched up a Blouson Sleeve Bateau in Bright Fuchsia. I think it will be very Madmen tucked into a pencil skirt
When I ordered the Bateau there was only 15 available in stock. That got me wondering what other sweaters are selling well? So, I checked out inventory levels online. Keep in mind these numbers are purely speculatory and are based on the inventory levels shown when you add items to your online cart. I don’t have any connection to J.Crew or insider info on how much stock is in their warehouse, although I wish I did lol!
Cashmere Blouson sleeve Bateau’s going fast! Most colors in Xsmall are under 20. Medium Citron 8, Large Peony 3, L Tangelo 7, M Cypress 16. There are several Mediums in black.
Cashmere Shawl collar sweater- XS Cypress-7, XS Tangelo-8, M Citron-16, L Spearmint-15. Plenty of Smalls in Peony.
Cashmere Heirloom henley- XS Peony-1, XS Black-5, S Papaya-15, L Cypress-2, L Blade green-5. These are going fast too but there are some colors showing around 50 still in stock including M Turquoise, XS Poppy.
Other sweaters showing lower stock- $500.00 Feather collar cardigan in M-4, XS-15, Eva in XS Peony-5, Dream Tie XS Poppy-15, Alpaca Kennedi jacket XS-20, L-18, Silver Beaded cashmere cardigan in Graphite XS-35, L-31, Cashmere Janelle XS-19.
Some sweaters showing many in stock- Lucinda cable cardigan, Clara chiffon cardigan, Dream Valerie bow cardigan, Cashmere Nola.
What are your thoughts on the sweaters selling and not selling out. I’m surprised how well Citron is selling! Are you planing on buying anything during the sweater sale or are you holding out for a larger discount?
I have to say, although I am happy with the 20% off, if the discount was reflected automatically in the price and I could use a Free Ship code, I would have purchased more than one sweater.

My guess is the Citron is low inventory because they did not bring alot of stock in the first place. Inventories are low in Tees also, the plain Ringspun are 20 or less in most colors, the Embellished Tees are going fast most are under 50 in stock.
I think this is the way it is going to be from now on, it will be interesting to see what goes on sale, I do not think that there will be as many sales as in the past.
Crap! I want some of those tees.
Looks like the colors I want are around 40. I will have to keep a close eye on them
I really don’t go by the numbers and find them to be misleading at times. For example, sweaters get returned and/or restocked. I paniced about one I wanted when only 2 were left in Sept. and now there are 19 and have been for the past two months give or take one or two when I check. Who knows… now, in the past, I have always waited and what I want has always come up on sale in the end(big sale–not just 20%)
I also noticed this with jeans…and pants. The number are a good gauge but can be restocked with goods that stores send back or more stock comes in and BAM! one day there were 20 jeans in a style I wanted and now there are 95!
I guess it just depends what it is, I took a chance on the cashmere crew and I got what I wanted for $69.99, However I missed out on the Graphic Crest Tee waiting for it to go on sale and it never came back. This fall the inventories were high but the inventories are lower now due to the economy.
sorry, new to this blog. where are you all looking at inventory levels?
Anon 2:05-Oh definitely! I don't really worry about the inventory level of items that are in stores because most likely you can track it down eventually (although the Rose tee has proven to be elusive for most). It is the online only things that I keep an eye on. If I am in LOVE with something I snag it with the first 20% off I can. Most of the items I buy, I don't see on deep discount in my size and color. If I could go to the B&M every week though, my sale finds might be very different!
Anon 6:26-Change the amount of an item in your cart to 99 and it will adjust to how many you can purchase
I kinda tend to agree that unless you REALLY WANT/NEED it then you can probably hold out for a sale. I say probably because I do think they might be changing up how they do business. Maybe making less of an important item. I think this year will tell us more come next Final Sale time. I mean look–they now have Simone leopard Peacoats–everyone thought those would be history with the select few that were made. It's really interesting to see and very hard to gauge. I think with staples though I would NOT get too worked up about grabbing up (jeans & tees) whereas specialty items–there's a little concern with them changing their practices so that people learn to buy full price or they lose out. BTW-thanks shannon for doing the leg work on the sweater counts–SO NICE! I noticed a few things I am interested in are ALREADY considerably lower in QTY–so they must be selling some clothes still (these are fullprice items). When will they give us a private sale coupon?? I know we are all dying for this:)
I am glad I got my simone though when it first came out (snow leopard) b/c when it went on sale (I was online when the change over was made:) there was only one left in stock in my size and bet that would have been cancelled for sure!
I do think this so called limited number is a true marketing gimmick. If something sells quickly I bet JCRew immediately orders more…maybe the rose tee is an exception but I bet you anything it will be back and probably on sale. Not my taste personally but I know lots of people liked it. (I had a chance to buy it several times but passed–guess I should have bought several and sold them on ebay:) ha ha:)
Anyone have any info. on the Maria ruffle cardigan, Alpaca Kennedi jacket, or the Striped Victoria ruffle. ANy sizing, fit info would be great. Also, just your thoughts on how they looked and if any of the items were worth the $$$. Thanks.
Shannon I received my Graphic Licorie Tee in Bright Tulip today and the material is really soft, unlike the other Ringspun Tee that I ordered earlier in the fall. The Bright Tulip color is a cross between a pink and a orange and it is bright, the sequins are not too flashy and overall I like it. I also ordered one in the Dark Slate color.
Ohhh, I want that licorice tee! I almost ordered it with my sweater but decided to be good. The color sounds beautiful. Is the sizing like the previous ringspuns? I usually size up to a small.
Anon 7am- I haven’t seen those exact items in person. I am really interested in seeing the Kennedi, it looks so cute online.
I did try on the Vicotoria in a solid color, the black. It ran a little big for me
shannon: The sizing is the same as the rest of the Ringspun tees, I noticed that the xl has sold out, no date of new shipments, and the large is going fast. Being a size small I think there is a quite a few left.
Thanks! It’s such a relief when sizing is consistent
Notice how some of the sweaters are now back on fall sale or promo (that were reg. price yesterday) and you can get free shipping today–FREESHIP125. The 20% off deal wasn’t such a deal when paying for shipping…I am glad I did not cave in. You really have to be a super savvy shopper and/or willing to wait.
You have to spend $125.00 though to get the fs, I priced a cashmere tee and compared the 2 discounts, 20% still was cheaper because I had to pick up something else to get the fs. It wasn’t worth it.
I ended up not purchasing anything because JC cashmere is crap.
I see they put a fews of things back on sale. The eva, lea, melanie, merino tnecks and some basics in the early fall colors but the cashmere blouson bateau and henley which a lot of people were buying with the coupon are still full price. I think most people knew the items previously on sale would go back on sale after the coupon. That was a pretty lame move by JC
I’m not surprised the Clara is on special lol. It didn’t seem to be moving at all when I checked the stock levels Wed
in your comments you give your sizes and say that you size up or down according to that base… according to your sizes, you CAN’T size down. ??
Right, if something is too big in an xs or 0, then I can’t buy it
But I mark it as size down because I know it is running big
