The Double-serge pencil skirt runs true to size. Even though I am only 5’4″, I did not have to get the skirt hemmed or order the petite. The hem hit right at mid-knee on me.
This skirt is made in a fall/winter weight wool. The material is soft and comfortable. It is weaved on the diagonal which gives a nice drape. The skirt is fully lined in poly-satin. It zips and hooks in the back. The zipper lays nice and flat. The Double-sege skirt has a wide waistband which I find really flattering. Beneath the band are two darts on each the front and back.
As seen on J.Crew.com and their catalogs, this skirt is very versatile. It if formal enough for the office. It can be dressed up for a night out or paired with a simple tee and cardigan for a more casual look.
I purchased this skirt in the Bronzed Ochre. The color is a brownish yellow, about 2 shades darker than Honey Glaze. At first the shade seemed a little tricky to work with but I am discovering it goes with more than you might expect. I love the Ochre skirt with a plum, peony, or putty sweater. It works nicely with both black and brown shoes. I expect I’ll be wearing this skirt for years.

Thanks for the lovely review Shannon. I ordered this today in the Ochre. I’m 5’2 so I got a 2P. I am crossing my fingers that it will fit. Usually wear a 0 in JC skirts and have them hemmed. I was thinking of pairing w/ navy but I love that you wore it with plum. Looks stunning on you!
Thanks Emily, I hope your skirt fits!
I love navy with the ochre too. I am excited to wear my navy jackie cardi with it, once it stops snowing!
I actually purchased this for my sister for Christmas. Glad to read a positive review.
Oh, & those shoes are very Snow White.
I noticed you put a belt over the waistband, but there are no beltloops (I think). Does it stay put? They do that alot in the catalog, and I always wonder if it actually works IRL.
The white tights are very Jenna Lyons-ish!
Jeff- I hope your sis likes it as much as I do. Why can’t my brother buy me Jcrew???
Anon 4:34- You’re right no belt loops. I only wore this for a few minutes this morning but I’ll be wearing it out to a party tomorrow. I will let you know how the belt fares
Anon 4:36- I hope that is a good thing lol! The tights are actually a little more beige irl. I searched already for a color that would work with this skirt and found these at Mytights.com
Fantastic review Shannon! The skirt looks really pretty on you, and I love the shoes…really thrilled to get to see both them AND the skirt on!
Shannon–You’re right. That deep yellow-ish color looks very pretty with the plum color palette. Are those j.crew shoes? They’re very cute!
The shoes are Chie Mihara
Shannon, fantastic review and fantastic skirt! Shoes are to die for: I have been eyeing Chie Mihara for ages- they are very unique shoes, indeed!
I just bought several pairs of Chie Mihara at the store in Spain:) Very cute:)
I bought this skirt some time ago to wear at the office. I have in bright red and white.
The first one looks great paired with grey and navy (no white, it would be way to Miss Santa) and the second is just perfect with a black t-neck, very graphic
I think the fit is different then the one on the model, much more a- line than pencil. I got mines a size too big (size 6, I’m 5’11 with little to keep me warm) and got the sides taken in by my neighborhood seamstress and now it is perfect !
I soo love pencil skirts
I love Chie Mihara! I have several pairs. Anthro sells a lot of her. I also have the skirt in the black. Now, I am 5’8″ with a curvy frame and tend to be an 8 for bottoms. I wear this skirt higher on my waist rather than lower like they state is the cut of the skirt. I bought a size 4! I’ve also been lusting after the ochre color, but decided I don’t wear these types of skirts enough to justify another one, and the color is more trendy so black was a more classic choice. Love the ochre with the plum color though. I tried that combo on in the store way back when I tried the skirt on. Have fun at the party and report back!
Thank you so much for modeling that. That is an A-line skirt, which you would never know from J Crew’s pics on the website. It looks cute on you, but not what I’m looking for. Saves me a lot of time ordering, trying on, and returning-thanks!
Agreed, despite the name it’s not really a pencil cut. It is wider at the bottom than I was expecting. I may have it taken in.
I have 2 pairs of Chie’s and I’m dying for more. They are so comfortable and the leather is like butter!
Thanks for review. It looks great w/ plum. I tried it on in the BM & it just fit me oddly, the size 2 was a bit snug, but 4 was too loose, so, I just gave up. But it llooks great on you, and lovin the belt w/ it.
i just love this skirt so much that i purchased one in eac color! it looks lovely on you!
Can I ask what shirt that is? Love the plum color and have been trying to find some items still left in that color! Thanks
Hi ceecee, it is the dark peony cashmere tee
