..with this jacket from J.Crew’s Spring 09 line. The Keegan coat is a shortish double-breasted trench with removable ruffle collar. According to my local store associate, the Keegan will not be out until March. However, many readers report seeing the jacket in stores this week.
I am very eager to see it in real life and find out whether the fit is for me. I’m a little worried about boxiness.
What do you think of the Keegan jacket? Have any other J.Crew spring items pique your interest yet?

Oh my. That is too cute. I can’t wait to see it either!
WOW! I love it too! I wonder if it will be available in other colors?
Totally adore this style! Thanks for a visual treat!
I love that the collar is removeable. I love the ruffle, but sometimes would like to go without, KWIM? I’m not sure it’s worth $158 though….
Isn’t March a little late in the season though?
Do you think the collar is really wide on it? It extends past the shoulder seem on the left side. Without the ruffle I think it's plain but who knows, it may be a stylish cut. We'll have to wait & see. At this time I like the travel trench better but that's just me.
It’s to “piqué” interest not “peek”. I’m sorry for having to be a bitch about that, I love your blog!
Oh I really love this look, esp. w/ the removable ruffle collar. Now I am torn between the travel trench & the Keegan. I was planning to use my rewards points for the travel trench but I think I might reconsider. Thanks for the post Shannon!
I just saw this jacket yesterday at my J Crew in Columbia MD. It comes in the khaki and white. I tried on the khaki and wanted to love it, but did find it was too boxy.
Oh crap, I am seriously in love!
Thanks Anon 5:39!
Note to self: do not blog when tired and cross eyed from new glasses ;P
Lou-that’s interesting! I wonder if only some stores will be getting it later
I had the exact same thought as Stacie when I first read this–which colors will they offer it in?
I LOVE this jacket…can’t wait to see it online/in stores! Thanks for sharing Shannon!
OT – any thoughts on the gold lame skirt? I’m pretty short (5’2″) and am worried it’s too long…
The Stonestown store in SF had them out today, and it’s boxy. Plus, the ruffles aren’t very noticeable under the collar (but in a disappointing way). I’d say it’s not worth the price.
Hi, I just bought this today at my local JCrew (Madison Ave, NYC). It’s really cute, and the texture is soft, but sturdy. The white is really nice, but I opted for the khaki. I haven’t tried to detach the collar yet, but so far, I’m loving it. Too bad this arctic weather is prohibiting me from wearing it out!
I saw this jacket today at my local JCrew (5th Ave. NY) I was gonna buy it, but I saw a long trench coat for $248 which is really nice for spring, so I’m will pass by tom. and decide….
I was in my BM today and this jacket was just being unpacked. Just so you know!
Thanks for letting me know it is available now ladies. I will update the post!
Kmel-I was afraid of that. Sounds like one you definitely need to see in person
I’m going to my local J.Crew tomorrow, so I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for it. I actually prefer the Travel Trench over this one, but I could change my mind after trying it on…we’ll see…
Cute but I don’t see myself wearing this jacket a lot in San Diego.
It is nice, although looks like it could be boxy. I’m an inverted triangle so I have to get a large enough size for my bust and boxy cuts often be really wide on the bottom.
If it comes in a fabulous colour, the boxiness would be a fair tradeoff. But I’m curious about the other trench someone mentioned and what other jackets J.Crew may have coming out this spring. I love J.Crew outerwear, it is always classy and unique.
Hi Shannon, did you receive your Nicky skirt yet? I'm curious to know what you think of it and see your review when you have time.
I love that people provide reviews, it is soooo helpful to those of us who cannot get to a B&M. Much appreciated.
Cute!! Can’t wait to see a pic of someone wearing it!
I did receive the Nicky yesterday. I will try to get some pics and a review up tomorrow
Love, love, love the keegan jacket! Just bought the khaki. It came in white also but it was too nautical looking for my tastes. I also tried the travel trench as I wasn’t sure which jacket I would come home with before I went. The trench was too long(and I’m 5’8″) it hit at my hips which immediately drew my eyes there when I looked in the mirror. My waist seemed to be lost also even though it was belted. Navy was better but I don’t want a navy spring jacket. By the way the travel trench was $30.00 off at jcrew.com but they only had khaki. Back to the keegan…I bought an 8, I usually buy 8 or 10 in JC coats. The sleeves were too long on the 10 and it was much fuller in the waist than I wanted. The shoulders seemed the same on both jackets. I’m sure it’ll be a while before I wear it as its 20 degrees and snowing!
Thanks for the review Julie!
Tried on the Keegan today. As feared, it was not very cute on me. It fit tts in the shoulders and bust, with a full waist. It cut off right above my hips which makes me look wide. Ah well, money saved
