Since everyone was so much help with the Chunky knit cardi, I decided to run another poll. This time the poll is for the double-serge Maggie jacket in heather bright berry. Keep, return, or exchange for a 0 regular?
Fyi:I purchased the jacket for $79.99
In the pic, I am wearing the petite 2. The fit feels good but I’m not sure that waist and hem are hitting in the most flattering places. Please don’t pay much attention to the fabric color. It is dark in the house today, so I could not get a true photo of the berry shade. I will try for better pics tomorrow when I write a full review.
P.S.- I did return the Chunky knit cardi, thanks for the help

KEEP this one.
It’s very flattering on you!
I think it looks a little too big! Maybe you should at least try on the 0 regular for your own comparison.
I left a comment about the Maggie on your website before. In my opinion the Maggie is not very flattering. From the other pictures I know that you have a very beautiful petite figure and this jacket just doesn’t show that off. In the first picture, it makes your shoulders look more narrow than your waist. I had the same problem with the Maggie and had to return it.
It looks fabulous from the “waist-band” up but strange below. Maybe like Jane said it’s just too big?
The color is beautiful, though.
If you could try a smaller size, I recommend it. Looks fine on top, buttoned up, the bottom is not as flattering as other items I’ve seen you wear. It looks OK open as it falls straighter. I think the colour is lovely on you Shannon.
Overall I think it is a keeper. Very nicely constructed, looks every bit a quality piece.
The waist band is a little high. It hits right above the smallest point of my waist. This might be throwing the fit off.. I was thinking if I ordered the 0 regular the band would be lower but then the jacket will probably be hip length and I will have to roll the sleeves. Another consideration, in the petite it is already a little wide in the chest, up under the arms.
But I think the petite 0 would be too tight in the shoulders.
Thanks for the votes and thoughts so far!
I agree with others. You have beautiful body and this jacket is not flattering on you. Miss D says it right… you shoulder looks narrower than your waist. and it won’t look right if its any longer than this
Keep, 100%. Looks fantastic and makes me want one for myself. The 2 looks nice, a little room to move, yet still fitted.
I’m probably the only one not a fan of the Maggie. It looks too big; I say no (but I think the color looks good on you).
I think it looked good. The flare at the bottom of the jacket accentuates your hips and thighs a bit, but it’s not really that noticeable.
The sleeves on the regular size will be a tad longer, and you may have to roll up the cuff, which I didn’t like.
I love the color on you! Yikes, I ordered the same jacket but in a tall size. I notice too the waist seems high on the jacket the JC model is wearing but assumed she wasn’t wearing a tall size. Not sure if that’s just the style of this jacket? I think it’s flattering on you from the waist up, and also better worn open. I think the sleeves would be too long in a tall size for you.
After looking at the model pics online and in the catalog, I think you are right that the waist is suppose to fit higher. So, now I think my main concern is whether it flairs out too much at the hip
I think the waist hits you in the right place–i.e, where it was designed to hit. (Low rise pants and hip slung skirts have dominated for too long. People have forgotten that you create the illusion of long legs by moving the visual waist up. Not everything should hang from the hips, particularly on petite people!)
The jacket is a tad large on you. The shoulders sit outside your natural shoulders and the torso is too wide to really flatter your figure. (But the length on the arms looks good.) If you can, try a P0. A 0 is going to be too long in the body and the arms and the waist detail are going to be too low and long. If you can’t get a P0, consider getting this one altered to achieve a better fit through the body. There should be darts in the back.
BTW, how do you like the color? I’ve been looking at this same one. None of the other colors ever appealed to me.
A bigger closet-I forgot to say, I bet this jacket will look great on you. Since you have a tall slim figure like the jc models, you won’t have to worry about the hip flair.
Anon 7:45- I like the color a lot. I was relieved that the pink is muted, not garish.
I haven’t seen the P0 available on the site in a while. They don’t even have any more 2s right now. I need to find a good tailor!
it’s not returnable, right? i got mine today too, and it looks similar on me — a bit too big. i wish i had ordered a 0 instead of a 2!
i think i am going to get it tailored, though. i really like the fabric and overall styling of the jacket. plus . . . i think it’s not returnable. am i wrong?
also — i liked to you on my blog post today, since we were having similar fit problems with the jacket! hope that’s ok!
The sleeves are to short on you. If you exchange it for a smaller size the sleeves will be even shorter. I say just return it and forget it.
as a Maggie fan, i agree with the others that this one just doesn’t fit you quite as it is supposed to. it does look a bit big and bulky especially unbuttoned. you should try a different size if you are able to return it. good luck!
I think it looks very nice on you. Since this is more of a coat than a jacket, it should fit a little bit larger so you can put a sweater under it. How does it feel to you?
I love the nipped-in waist and hourglass fit. The color is beautiful. I think the waist and sleeve are hitting you at the right place. A regular 0 will fit the same as a 2P and will have a much longer sleeve.
I’m glad you reviewed this b/c now I definitely know that I have to have a petite size. I checked the website right before 8am and the Maggie was already sold out of the color/ size that I want.
I think the Maggie just looks okay on you. It is not bad but I don’t think it is spectacular like many of the other items that you buy and review. It looks a little big but not so much that it is horrible. Hopefully, you don’t find offense to my comment. Please let us know what you think about the htr berry color. I think the color looks great on you.
It doesn’t look terrible, I just think the shape of your jeans is throwing off the look of the jacket. I would try a trouser pant that might balance out the look. The shape of those jeans and where the jacket hits is making it have a “mom jeans” effect.
Also, since you are borderline petite (based on your height) and the Maggie runs fitted–a regular size would probably fit better.
I wouldn’t put much stock in how things fit the models, especially at your height. Those girls are minimum 5′-9″, most 5’10″ or 5’11″, and if there’s a petite size available-that’s what they are usually wearing. Edda is 5’9 1/2″ and looks to be wearing a petite size, (the arm length is a dead giveaway). She has a long torso.
I think it looks cute on you, but I think you could go down a size. Stretch your arms out in front of you as far as you can. If you get a lot of pulling and bunching, and it feels tight, you may want to stick with that size.
I agree with the poster above who said the problem is the shape of your jeans, not the jacket. It looks like a gorgeous color, but I think you’ll be happier with a darker wash trouser jean to balance the silhouette of the top. I think it is very flattering on you!
Honestly, I think most message boards dedicated to clothing push people to wear everything tight and form-fitting. Not everything in your closet has to fit like a knit sweater.
The jacket has a lovely shape on you, and I don’t see a problem with the fact that it skims your figure rather than hugging it tightly. I also think your jeans look fine, and it’s the nature of how the photograph is cut off at the thigh, that makes it look off. I do think, when you’re asking for advice like this, that full length photos are necessary.
Keep it-it looks elegant the way it is.
My jeans do look a little odd in the photo, irl they are not mom jean-like lol. But they are fitted in the thigh and hip, which I agree is adding to the hippiness.
I’m trying the jacket with a wide leg and relaxed jean now. I don’t think the wide leg will work since the jacket is a little too big but we’ll see. Widelegs even when fitted right, make me look heavy. I think.
I do think I need a smaller size in the jacket. It is definetly too big in the chest and pokes out in a weird way next to the arms.
I called for measurements and the petite 0 will have a cropped sleeve and hem look. I don’t know if there is any hope of a p0 coming back onto the site.
The regular 0 is slightly smaller in the chest and waist than the one I have. I’m wondering if 1/2 and inch will be small enough..
Thanks again for all the comments, it really helps! I am getting frustrated with my wardrobe lately. Seems like the only clothing I can find a good fit in, is a pencil skirt.
Sorry for the novel
Shannon, I totally sympathize. I am your EXACT size, weight, and height and I have had so much trouble in the last year or so finding clothes that fit my body properly. I’m a grad student in my mid-20′s and trying to find clothes that are professional but fit my body well is just much harder than it should be- are we that unusually small? I reallllly don’t think so. I have to buy 0 and xxs at J.Crew, BR, anywhere really, and I know there is a large portion of the population the same size or smaller than me.
I hate vanity sizing!!
Shannon, why don’t you try it with a pencil skirt or even a pair of shorts? I know it is a wool jacket, but you could wear it in early summer to throw on when the sun goes down.
If you think the pencil skirt looks good then when you pair with other items that fit you well, the jacket will be fine.
JMO
How do you feel in it, comfortable like the look? If you have any doubts I would say return it there is going to be alot of new Spring stuff in the stores soon alot to choose from. The jacket looks a little off I do not know whether it is the jeans or something else. I cannot put my finger on it.
casual-crew that is a good point. Maybe I’ll make my final decision after I see the new roll out.
Anon 11:33- I will try it with a skirt, ty
Lindsay- I hate vanity sizing too, it’s a pita
Sarah-Glad to hear I am not alone! Mine is not marked final sale. If I want to exchange I will call ahead and make sure they will except it. If I return, I will just bring it into the store. My store’s are very good about standing behind the product
Shannon,
No matter what size you get, it has that strange under the arm baggage even if you size down. Does it still bag under the arm if you button it? I still think it looks great on you.
Thanks Kate!
It does bag a little buttoned but not nearly as bad
