Although the new March arrivals did not have me very excited, I made a quick trip to J.Crew to see them in person. My store seemed to be missing most of the best items from the catalog, like the Bow dress and Soiree jacket. Here is what I did see:
Silk-linen Vneck sweater- This has been out for awhile but the first time I tried it on. I love the fresh mint shade. The fit and length of the sweater is nice. Fyi: the arms are quite snug. But the material is so thin, while not see through it shows every lump and bump around my stomach. I do sits up for no sweater

Ripple ruffle slub tee- I meant to try on the Ruffle scoopneck tee but got distracted by the pretty blue and picked up this one instead. The shade is much more saturated than my pic shows. I tried the XS and this is too big. It is especially full under the chest down to the natural waist. The scoop is also to low in this size. I recommend sizing down. I am going to assume the Ruffle scoop fit is similar and pass on both.
Sanur dress- The only dresses I saw at my store was the Sanur and the Pique pavilion shift. The shift looked to run huge, so I grabbed the Sanur for the dressing room. It doesn’t seem to be listed online today but if I remember correctly it is sized XS-XL and this is the XS. The fit is great, true to size. I like it as a dress but as a skirt I think it is a little long and full for me. Hopefully I can pick one of these up on sale later this year.
Cocktail & Cafe Capri- I tried on the Cocktail and Cafe capris. I have a Cafe capri in petite 2 from last year and the fit in is pretty good except that the waist is a tiny bit too big. I tried on the 0 regular in store and they were more fitted but too tight in the thigh for my liking. I could size up to a 2 and have the waist taken it but I think I will just hold out for a better fitting non-jc pant. I tried the Cafe’s in the Warm blush which was not sheer to skin but did show through the back pockets, didn’t like that either.
The Cocktail capri were just awful on me. They made me look wide in the hip and squat. The material is nice and they felt true to size with a roomy leg.
Atelier jacket- The Atelier jacket runs big in my opinion. This is the size 0 and it feels big all over with probably enough room in the shoulders to size down. Of course this is meant to be a swingy jacket like the Aubrey. But the Aubrey in this size felt smaller and did not sit as far away from the body as this jacket does.
Staying true to my attempt to only buy unique or specifically needed items, I did not buy any of these. I did come home with one thing which I will review later this week.

Good for you for staying only unique or needed items! Can’t wait to see your review on what you brought home.
I tried on the ripple ruffle slub tee. I liked it better than the ruffle scoop. But I didn’t get it – it wasn’t worth that much to me. Maybe later on sale price.
Thank you for doing this review…
If you could get the jacket in a smaller size, that would be a score…the neckline looks so nice on you.
I cannot believe how different a pair of pants can look on two separate people. I have the cocktail capris and they are much shorter and more fitted. I realize you and I are world apart in size, but this truly emphasizes why certain styles work for some people and not others!
For instance, I will be going nowhere near that strapless dress concoction you tried on…
Have a great day!!!
I should mention the strapless dress looks amazing with your figure!
The Sanur dress and the jacket looks great on you!
It is too bad the Cocktail Capri did not work for you. I agree that the Slub tee is cut too low.
The only thing I bought was the Deco Dot cardi in pink for something different to have, and the Critter tee (seahorse) and that was it.
The Sanur dress looks fantastic on you and shows off your figure. Buy it!!
So sad – I am an XS/0 too and it is frustrating that so many of their items are running big. I think the jacket is my fave on you, I like the swingy look. And I dont’ see any puggyness in the sweater. ;o)
Can’t wait to see what you purchased!!
FYI–The fit on those two tees is not the same.
The ruffle scoop fits much more fitted and the scoop neck is a tad bit higher! Don’t pass it off until you try it–the XS fit me perfectly, (while the XS is the rippleruffle was too big).
What is the difference between the cocktail and cafe capri?
Petunia-That is good to know, ty! I might get one after all. I wish they had a better color select though.
Kris- the cocktail capris are full in the leg nad more relaxed in the hip
Thanks, Shannon!
Looove that jacket. I think I might have to add it to my shopping cart.
The orange dress looks fantastic on you! Random question: what shirt are you wearing when you tried on the capris? The color looks fabulous in pictures!
I had the SAME experience with the silk-linen v-neck sweater! I wanted to love it because the colors were unusual but my arms felt like overstuffed sausages about ready to explode in the sleeves! Glad to know that it doesn’t work for other arms too. I ordered the ripple ruffle slub tee (in the lavender color) in my usual size and am now worried that it will be too big! The Sanur dress looks really cute on you–I can see you dressing it up with one of your lovely necklaces and a cardigan.
If you live near a JCrew outlet, check it out for the Sanur dress – mine has them for $39.99 right now (regular $49.99 I think).
Iheartgreen- it is the jasmine waffle henley
Anon-Oh that is a good idea…I hadn’t even thought of the necklace possibilities
JTS-ty
You look *hot* in the Sanur dress…tsssss.
Thanks for posting the reviews!
Thanks for the reviews and pics, Shannon! Love the dress on you, btw!
Thank you so much for your reviews. We are the same size and I really look forward to your posts…especially when I am itching to get in store myself!
I agree with everyone else- the Sanur dress was made for you! And is that your own lil' crewgirl peeking out in the Sanur dress picture? Made me smile.
A Mommy & Me moment!
Just wanted to let you know that the atelier jacket is now on sale for $98. I think I might get it. If I normally wear a small in the jacket would you recommending I get an XS?
Christina-It ran big for me but Megan has pics on her blog and says it fit her tts. There is a link to her blog in my blogroll. I would guess if you often size down in jc jackets to try that with the atelier but if not, stay with the usual
