J.Crew watercolor floral skirt

I spotted this new watercolor skirt by J.Crew in the latest Marie Claire. I think it is gorgeous and my mind is already churning with bracelet ideas to match it! The price is a little steep though, listed at $110. What do you think of this new skirt from J.Crew?

Have you noticed that J.Crew have been featured in magazines a LOT the last few months. Seems like they are every where! JC items are on multiple pages in this issue of Marie Claire. I have also noticed them being featured repeatedly in past issues. As well as in Bazaar, Cookie, and several other magazines.

Do you think JC has stepped up their advertising budget or is it because they are right on point with the current trends? Perhaps, it is due to fashion magazines adjusting to lower price points because of the economy..?

I have been posting most of my new necklace creations here on the blog and I really appreciate the kind words and encouraging feedback from all of you!

I have several new designs in mind for the next few weeks but I don’t want to over load the blog with jewelry. So, I decided to start a Dressing Room Jewelry newsletter. I will still include some jewelry pics here on the blog in my OOTD posts and also feature my specifically J.Crew inspired pieces. But most of the other new necklaces I make will be posted about in the newsletter.

The Dressing Room newsletter will only be sent once and week, probably Sunday nights. It will feature my latest jewelry designs and I will offer the occasional discount such as free shipping to subscribers. You can unsubscribe from the list at any time.
If you would like to sign up for the jewelry newsletter, you can do so in the box below :)

DIY Pearl cluster necklace

I fell in love with the J.Crew pearl cluster necklace when it came out. But then I looked at it in store.. and saw how huge it was. Although gorgeous on some, I thought it would be way too large on me.
So, I decided to make one myself. It was a little tricky at first. Figuring out the best way to get the pearls to cluster together and attached securely. I started out just using jump rings but because of the thin headpins, if I shook the necklace hard a pearl might launch across the room. I took the whole thing apart and started again, this time using split rings. I am very happy with the results. My 5yo dd was thrilled to be my shake tester. Not a single bead budged.

I used peach Swarovski crystal pearls and faceted rounds instead of the white plastic in the JC necklace. Here is a materials list for you crafty chics ;)

8, 10, and 12mm Swarovski pearls in peach
6mm Swarovski faceted round peach
3mm corrugated gold-plate rounds
headpins, split rings, and jumps rings, all gold-plate
7x5mm cable chain

Critter Craze

I was browsing my mammoth bead catalog this week when I came across a silver starfish bead. A little more flipping and I found some turquoise rounds and coral pieces. Suddenly I realized my life was empty without a sea life necklace. I’m not sure what has come over me, this type of jewelry is usually not my style. I think I have finally caved to J.Crew’s critter craze.

I am not normally into critter items. Despite how cute they are on other bloggers, I am not remotely tempted by the latest zebra or crawfish tees. There is one critter item that I think back on wistfully.. The grey dog cardigan shown below. I remember seeing it pop up on final sale late last year and I secretly wanting it. I wasn’t quite prepared though to show my spectacularly preppy side, so I let it go. If you see one pop up online, let me know!

So, what do you think of J.Crew’s critter compulsion. Perfectly preppy or passé?
