My two loves, bows and beads

Thanks so much for the feedback on the brass jewelry! I have decided not to invest in a wholesale order right now. I need to think carefully about how to upscale brass or if I should just scrap the whole idea. I may still make myself a scarab necklace.. If I do, I’ll post and maybe you can give me your thoughts on if it looks cheap or awkward with the rest of my shop.

In the meantime, I’ve decide to get back to some designs closer to my heart…

Last night I had a flash of inspiration. I made a rock crystal necklace a couple weeks ago and I had a nagging feeling that it was missing something. Suddenly it hit me that little black bows tied to it would give it the depth that it was sorely lacking. I am now in love with the necklace. It’s funny how such a small detail can make a world of difference.

This totally revived my desire to start working some ribbon into my designs. I’ve been meaning to add some ribbon necklaces to my shop for ages but kept getting distracted by other things.

I think you ladies are very wise to caution me about the brass. I’m so glad I posted. That look probably isn’t really me and I will have to try much harder to make it so. On the other hand, you know I am all about bows and girlie details. So, I am going to stick with what I know ;)

Here is my Black tie crystal necklace. The first in what will hopefully be a whole ribbon collection

    LOVE IT!
I must have that necklace. It would be terrific with a LBD!

looks like what jcrew is doing right now with their jewelry. how inspirational!

    Thanks Dani. :)

Did you just stop by to mock me Anon. MANY stores are making ribbon emb. jewelry. I wasn't claiming to have invented a new style, just that it dawned on me that the dark ribbon would add the contrast this necklace needed

Oooh, I love the bows added to it! It makes it so girly! Are they removeable? If so, you could include several colors with the necklaces you sold so you could switch out the bow color to suit your mood. You know, pink, black, tan, whatever. This really is darling! :)

bring on the ribbons! i love them. this little touch makes the rock crystal necklace more special. i can't wait to see your other ribbon ideas :)

Darling! The smallish ribbons are just the right touch.

I think the necklace is gorgeous with or without the ribbons! Love it!

Love it! great little accent. Shannon, what colors show off the crystal the best–light or dark tops?

  • Shannon

Gingersnap-Great idea. I was debating between securing the knots or leaving them untie-able. I finally just decided to leave it up to the customer

Amethyst-I like it with both actually. It looks really pretty with the shell rose tee and yesterday I wore it with my plum merino rose cardigan. It was a lot going on with the beads, ribbons, and flowers on the cardi lol but I dressed it down with a tank and the distressed vintage slim jeans

The necklace is just darling! Good call on the bows, Shannon! And I agree with Gingersnap, if they are removable, another set can be purchased to update the look!

oh shannon, that's gorgeous! it reminds me a little of j.crew's crystal bow tie necklace (the older one not the random bead-and-ribbon fiasco) but done so much cuter and wearable!

  • laurneypotpie

adorable shannon. i agree the bows make it perfect! i personally love that some of your pieces reflect jcrew style in a more wearable way. some of their pieces are just too big or gawdy while yours are perfect!

How great you can make your own jewelry–would save me a ton if I did it xo

Beautiful necklace! I'm a sucker for black and white jewelry.

I love reading your blog and looking at the hip, adorable outfits that you put together. I thought I'd pass along a cute, cheap find that I think may be right up your alley. I just received the Xhilration Square Ruffle Tees that I ordered online at Target (I bought both the white and briar rose colors in size small), and they are so darling. They remind me of that Anthropologie petal scoopneck top that you reviewed, but these ruffles lay fairly flat. Very cute under a cardi, and the price can't be beat at $9.98 and $6.98!!! Just thought I'd share ;)

Goldenmeans-Lol at the "random fiasco"! That necklace looks great on you! But it is so big, kills the versatility huh

Laurney-Thanks so much! I do wish JC would get off the jumbo jewelry kick.

Beth-How great that you published a book?! I will have to look for it next time I'm at the mall

Rachel-Thanks for sharing, I will look for those in store!
