I made a very quick stop at J.Crew prior to hitting Martin and Osa Monday. The first thing that caught my eye was the Dream Knox sweater jacket. I had seen it as part of the new arrivals online but honestly, I think it looks kind of awful on the model. So, it wasn’t even on my wish list.
The first thing I thought when I tried the Knox sweater on was: oh it’s itchy
. BUT then I looked at it in the mirror, my eyes glazed over, and I forgot about the itch lol. It was surprisingly cute! Normally double breasted jackets are a complete disaster on me but this had a trim enough fit that I think it works. Another surprise, my pic is of a size small and it is not engulfing me! I’d still prefer an XS to get a slimmer fit around the waist but I was shocked to find it tts. I’m telling you, I was this close to completely giving up on J.Crew and their wonky sizing but this single sweater gives me hope.
Bad news is, the store was sold out of XS. I would have totally caved if they had it in stock. Now I will have to think a little more carefully about it and probably wait for a sale.
I know a lot of people are curious of this years Dream fabric. As I said, it felt a little itchy / scratchy when I first put it on but it didn’t continue to bother me. I have no idea how the fabric will wear though. I’ve not heard good things about previous year’s Dream fabrics.
Have you tried the Dream Knox cardigan? What did you think of the fit and fabric?

ooh, this looks REALLY NICE on you!!!! I agree…the model pic doesn't look that great. She's standing weird and there's only one button hooked. You look MUCH better than the model! This totally wasn't on my list, but it is now. Thanks for the pics!
I felt the same way, didn't have high hopes when I brought this to the dressing room. I went to the store to try the professor blazer which looked awful on me. But this sweater fits perfectly and looked so good on. It went home with me. I have not had a "need to have it now, no waiting for a sale" moment in Jcrew in awhile but it was great to feel the rush again.
AppGal- Thank you!! I don't know what they were thinking when the styled that model. The jacket looks odd and frumpy, then the cutoffs and tights?!
Marie-Yes, that was it exactly lol. "Need to have it now rush" It's been a long time since I felt that way too.
This does look really great on you! I was in the store the other day and heard the SAs talking about the Dream Funnelneck cardi. One of the girls owned it already and was going on about how it was piling already and how she probably wouldn't wear it again. The manager was saying that she would be sure to report it to quality control. Needless to say, I had purchased that cardigan previously but took it back on that news. I hate piling and knew that I would not be satisfied! Hope that helps!
wow, that sweater looks *fantastic* on you! at LEAST 10x better than the model
Thanks for reviewing & taking pics of this sweater! It looks good on you. Now I'm considering this sweater after viewing your pics
I think this looks great on you! My ps asked me to try it on, and I was thinking it was going to be a complete bomb.
Surprisingly, I loved it! I agree that it is a well made sweater – now to wonder if it's made of good stuff!
This one is on my wish list.
I have been eyeing this sweater online and thanks to your review I am now upgrading to "stalking" – omg…it's so cute! I am also happy to hear it runs TTS!
Thanks for the review. I have it sized down upon the recommendation of an SA, who said it may stretch. Not sure about this fall's quality but the 'dream yarn' sweaters from '07 pilled terribly after couple wears. So still on the fence.
Oh my gosh, I love it on you! Now I'm going to have to make a trip to my store to try it on! I love the double breasted look, but have been searching high and low for a cute sweater jacket in that style, so yay!
Isn't it funny how some things can look so different on than on the hanger? (or in this case – on the model?)
That is so cute! I love the buttons!
ok this is seriously cute on you!! Don't get an XS, the Small looks perfect on you.
It looks better over jeans than overstyled like the jcrew model has it. I saw it in store but I have so many double breasted sweaters and so many gray ones too! But now I must try it on next time just for fun!
The sweater looks good on you, however I also wonder whether it will stand up to many wearings. The Gap has a similar one out now sorry I do not have the item#.
There have been a couple of JCA who have purchased the Funnelneck cardi, it will be interesting to hear of any problems.
This was my first fall purchase. I love it! I wouldn't size down. The small looks perfect on you.
Wow, you look fantastic in this sweater! Based on the photo of the model, I wouldn't have given this one the time of day, but I really love the structured tailoring and the color. The Small seems to work well on you, but X-Small will work, too, if you want that slimmer fit. Thanks for the review, Shannon!
the fabric of the knox cardi feels different from my older dream sweaters… maybe it's a different gauge, idk.
my bf zeroed in on this sweater, but I was not interested. It's cute, but I'm saving up for a 'normal' grey sweater– and cashmere. and not jcrew.
Hey, Shannon!
Like a lot of the ladies, this sweater was one of those I just kinda passed on (online and in store), mainly because of how it was styled online. But seeing you wearing it IRL (way better and cuter than online, for sure!), I will HAVE to go back to the store and try it on! I've always loved this style and have a similar sweater jacket (heavier merino) from about two years ago, in black.
Thanks for posting and reviewing this, Shannon! 'Hope you're having a good week so far!
I'm glad you ladies like the sweater as much as I did!
Having my arm up holding the camera pulls up some of the fabric that was around my waist in the small. But I think I could do S or XS, which is great because I will probably be sale stalking
Great info – thanks! I will have to try it on. Love it on you!!
Your eyes glazed over….hehehehe, too funny.
I saw this sweater online and was debating ordering it when I spotted it at my B&M and bought it right there, after a try on and buttoning different ways in front of the triple-mirror in the dressing room. It was a bit itchy at first, but it's quickly forgotten as the day goes on. I ended up returning the funnelneck cadet sweater I was undecided on, when I found the knox and figured this was the better buy even at the full price. The buttons were sewn on firmly and I could fit slightly thicker layers underneath it, and the epaulets weren't as distracting. Love the thickness, only worn it a few times and am on the lookout for pilling. The double-breast doesn't swallow up my petite frame either. Oh, when knox is a bit itchy at first, the cadet isn't at all while they are both dream.
oooh this looks great on you! im loving that color too!
Hi Shannon–I love this sweater, too! When I saw it in the store, I grabbed it immediately, tried it on, and loved it. I bought it (using my rewards card I got for being a J. Crew cardholder, so it didn't seem quite so bad
Cyclone-Thanks for your thoughts on the sweater. I really love the look of the funnel neck too.
Anon 5:15- Very interesting that the SA said the funnel neck was pilling! I guess I better stay away from it after all.
Ashley-Thanks!
Ann-I'm trying to justify it with my rewards card too lol. I only have a measly $25 though, so it doesn't make much of a dent in the total
