Hello all, I am finally home! Our vacation in Europe was only two weeks but it seems like it’s been a month at least since I saw my comfy bed, warm bath, and tidy closet lol. It was a wonderful but exhausting trip, heavy on sight seeing and very light on lounging or relaxing.
During our week in Paris I visited the Repetto store I blogged about a couple months ago. The store was quite small and very busy! These photos are of the store near the Galeries Lafayette but I also visited the store near the Bon Marche. The boutique near the Bon was just slightly larger but nearly identical to this one.
The store is not much larger than you see here. It just fits these three tables plus one more with a couple pairs of boots and men’s shoes in the corner.
I caught the friendly and tres French salesman in this photo. I asked him when I entered the shop if it would be okay if I took a few photos. He smiled, laughed a little, and said of course!
I wish I would have tried some shoes on this day but I was just too tired. When I went shopping at the second Repetto, near the Bon, the staff was less friendly and not particularly helpful.

The shoes! Sigh. They were are all so pretty I couldn’t begin to decide which I wanted.

When I went back to Repetto later in the week, I did decide on a pair. These gorgeous black nappa leather flats with patent toe.
They had a pair size 37.5 on the table. It took a good 10 minutes plus to get the attention of one of the staff only to find out that this was the only shoe in this style left in the store…. or maybe she just didn’t feel like going downstairs for my size…
I stood around for another 10 minutes waiting for her to bring me a little sock to try on the shoe.
I tried very hard to be patient knowing that customer service in Paris or any big city is going to be different but honestly I was pretty annoyed and frustrated. It made me really appreciate the helpful service that I have grown accustom to receiving here in the states from stores like J.Crew and Anthropologie.
Even though I’ve heard Repetto’s run small, the 37.5 was a pinky width too big. I’d need my regular size 37. So, no Repettos for me
During this trip, I discovered I have a very hard time impulse shopping. I cannot just go out, make a decision, and buy something. I have to mull over it for days, weeks even. Occasionally something jumps off the rack at me and I buy it instantly. But sadly, nothing in Paris did. I know that sounds completely shocking. How could I not find something I wanted in Paris?!
I did see loads of gorgeous designer items at the Galeries, Printemps, and the Bon. Including drool worthy Balenciaga bags but I wasn’t about to spend a third of our total vacation $ on a handbag.
There were many, many mid level shoe brands at the Galeries. I browsed hoping to find a pair of flat short boots but nothing was quite right. They were all too cowboy, too blinged in buckles or studs, or just too heavy looking for me. Because they had a big sale going on, there was a ton of shoes and handbags in the 150-200 euro range. But I do not think they were actual leather and the soles and heels looked cheap. I took a close look at a couple pair of boots that I hoped would be winners and the finishing details were just not there. One pair was 300 or 400 euro and the top edge of the boot was just cut and unfinished, like you had just cut the leather with a pair of scissors.
I went through a few smaller stores near our hotel as well and saw many cute things, all in grey and black btw lol. I was really tempted buy a bag at Zara but again the price and quality did not match up. Almost $75 for a non leather bag with a cheap looking chain, I couldn’t part with my money for that.
I was very sad to leave without a goody from Paris but nothing gave me that little jolt. That, buy me buzz. It’s hard to find truly unique retail items that demand to be bought, even in fashion mecca. Everything was very expensive and in this day and age what can you not buy online later? The effortless Parisian style reaffirms this, making you realize how much you can do with basics found any where (more on Paris style later). Although, the one thing I did want to buy, the black Repetto flats, I cannot find any where online ![]()
Please email me if you spot them!

Thanks so much for sharing, really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on "effortless Parisian style"! The gentleman in black in the photo above looks exactly like I would imagine.
Shannon! Welcome home! I'm so glad you had such a lovely time. Though you didn't pick up any fashion goodies on your trip, there's not anything over there that you can't get in the good ole USA.
LOVE that Repetto window with the tutu — quintessential Repetto. Again, it's great to see you're back!
TTYL,
Carole
Welcome home, Shannon! I think it's great that you only impulse buy items that "move" you – it' not worth it otherwise.
Also, it saves $ and the pain of returns.
That Parisian sales guy shot looks like it could be taken in NYC or SF. Funny how the urban hipsters look similar. Looking forward to your post on the Parisian style!
BTW…It totally hear you about not wanting to shill out $$$ for PVC. Yuck. The good news is that you'll have more $ left over for Anthro's cute new stuff.
the french is not good for their "service", at least not as much as we value it here in the U.S. Very sad that you didn't get anything in Paris but at least you have pictures and lovely days there! I always end up just getting little treasures and jewelry from local artists in Paris. Hope you had nevertheless!
Oh how disappointing. Repettos are so hard to find online! I was disappointed when I went to Ireland. I know Ireland isn't "fashion mecca" like France but I hoped to find all of these cute little locally, WELL made things. Nope, almost everything was from China. I was utterly disappointed. Finding well made, AFFORDABLE things anywhere now days is really hard.
Ah, Paris! Where you have to beg shopkeepers to take your money.
Welcome back!
Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to hear your "Parisian Style" report
Welcome back!!
I've loved reading your posts on Paris. We are going over Christmas – New Years and I'm very excited as I've never been there before! We're just making all our arrangements now and I can totally attest to how expensive it all is. Looking forward to your post on Parisian style — ofcourse one of my hugest concerns after Where to Stay, is What to Wear! Thanks again!
Thanks for the welcome homes ladies!!
Caro-LOL, exactly!
I know there is a treasure trove of must have items in Paris, I just did not have time to find them. Dh and I are already talking about how when we go back someday, we will take our time, have a leisurely vacation, and I can dig through vintage shops & boutiques instead of the major "malls". I've really never been a department store shopper.
I will post the style report soon!
Oh yay, glad to see you back Shannon. I hope you enjoyed your trip, even if there was no heavy shopping involved
I am sure the Repetto flats will turn up somewhere — that is a classic style and will be around for seasons. Like Carole, I loved seeing the tutu in the store display!
You must tell us your favorite sites, shops and places you went. I think I might go on a trip there in a few months and I would love any recommendations you have =)
Welcome Back! I am sorry you did not get your shoes, I know Repettos are difficult to get online specially because you really need to try them as the sizes might vary depending on the styles. You really like the style you picked though.
I cannot wait for a fashion report from Paris.
Welcome Back Shannon!
I am the same when I travel, I rarely buy anything. I'm more into (Crewswear!) shopping before I go; I like to spend my time in museums rather than shopping. I am going to go to one or two vintage shops in Paris but that's it.
Can't wait to read your post on Paris Style!
All the best with unpacking (sigh) and settling back in Shannon! If you get fixated in that particular pair of Reps and can't find them in the US, try Gravity Pope in Canada, although would be tough to find 37s on sale. Suggest you try calling their Vancouver store to see if they have in stock in your size and can ship. Couple of years ago they were nice enough to help me find a pair of shoes I was "stalking" and mail them, even though they weren't listed in my size online. HTH, have a good week…
Welcome home!! I'm sorry that you didn't get to bring back anything from Paris, but at least you had a great experience without coming back with an empty wallet! The flats are super cute, it's too bad you couldn't find your size. And unfriendly SAs, no matter how busy the store, is always a big BOOO!
oooh wish I had been at the 1st store- the shoes look all so yummy
glad you had a great time!
If you ever go back to Paris in the future, Repetto also has an outlet shop in Paris called “Repetto Stock” and which offers the flats at reduced prices.
Also, a popular shoe shop in Paris would be André and they are like the french equivalent of Nine West. I hope this information is helpful!
Eternelmode- Thanks for the tip! I will definitely remember this for the next trip
