I stopped by J.Crew last night to try some of the newer arrivals. I didn’t find many things that interested me but I was happy to see the Tissue victoria top and the Bling button cardigan.
The tissue victoria is very thin. You can see every bit of my jeans underneath the top but I don’t think you could see bra clearly. My initial thoughts about it was, what season does J.crew think this is? It’s 30 degrees outside for god’s sake. I tried on the XS in a light lavender shade. The fit wasn’t bad. The Victoria has a relaxed waist but it fit pretty well in the chest and did not gape around the arm holes. The v-neck is low but not too low. The ruffles are the same thin material. You can work them into standing up a bit but I don’t know if they would keep their shape all day or after washing. A little spray starch may be in order. I’m fairly certain that the ruffle edges where cut and unfinished, maybe some one can confirm this?

Next I tried on the Bling button cardigan in cherry. I was pretty excited about this because J.Crew never does a true red cardigan. The XS fit okay. It was a little boxy and not particularly flattering. The material is a strange loose knit. It’s a bit abrasize though not exactly itchy. The red shade was a little disappointing to me as well. It’s a blue based red but it lacks the brightness you see in my photo. It’s not a muddled color but it fell a little flat for me.

Here we have the Dolce shawl collar popover in pale shell. This is the XS, which is laughably bad on me. The knit is very loose, more so than the Bling button cardigan. This makes the sweater very strechy. I can’t image how large it would be after a few wears. The only good thing about this pic is, you can see what the tissue Victoria looks like under a vneck sweater. It’s quite cute and I think I need one now!

How in the world this sweater looks like it does on the j.Crew model is beyond me. What size is she wearing, xxxxxxxs? J.Crew describes this sweater as “Slightly slouchy boyfriend fit that we love” Ummm I’m just going to be nice and remain speechless on that one.
More J.Crew and Anthropologie reviews coming later this week

Thanks for the reviews, Shannon. I totally agree about the fit of the Dolce shawl collar popover. Good grief, if that is an XS, what would the Medium look like, lol???!!!!!! What a disaster. They must have used about 20 clothes pins on the model’s back to make it look so chic. On the other hand, I think you look lovely in the Bling button cardigan. Too bad it’s not the red that we see in the photo — I love bright reds!
Thanks for the pics! I have not read one positive comment about the Bling cardigan, once again I love the style and even the colors JC is offering on this sweater but not the quality, I have typed this sentence too many times this Fall. Me think it is time to take a break from JC!
I am so glad that you did these reviews. I am heading over to J. Crew tonight and will be bearing in mind your info on the victoria ruffle top–I believe a size small in a DARK color is the way to go with that one.
As far as the shawl collar sweater, the model is probably 6 feet tall and wearing an xx-small made just for her.
I like the red cardi on you, but your comfort level is what matters in the end.
I meant that I WOULD be looking for a dark, size small victoria. You don’t need a small, the x-small fits you very well!
jcrew never does a true red!! It drives me nuts. I hve every shade of bright orange to dull maroon, but not a lick of red!
omg lol. that last sweater is huge on you!!! and thats an xs?! oh my! that victoria is pretty cute but I’d have to see it in person. Sorry nothing really worked out for you… what a let down!
JKW- At least 20 clothes pins lol. And then they had to move them all to the front to shoot the back. Ridiculous!
Casual-crew- I’m with you, why did they have to use such a strange fabric on the bling cardi??
Dina- Happy shopping!
Ginger- Yep, so many corals, I’m coral-ed out!
Ashley- The dolce is so bad it cracks me up
Wow — the new arrivals aren’t doing favors for many people. You have a tall, lean figure and if they don’t look good on you I don’t know what to say. I hope your online order picks work well
I am SURE that J.Crew pins the clothes in the back. How else would it look so great?
I’ve always hated it when stores do that in their displays. You think that something is formfitting and cute, and try it on to find that it is boxy and ugly. ARGH!
When is J.Crew going to make a true XS? I would like to fit into their clothes!
Oh my gosh, my eyes almost popped out of my head when I saw the picture of that red cardi in a J.Crew review post! I have been waiting for J.Crew to release a true red for forever now. Do they not realize a red cashmere cardi is a wardrobe staple? Does Jenna Lyons hate red and enjoy taunting online consumers with reds that turn out to be orange in real life? Anyway, it looks *great* in your picture; I am sorry to hear that the fit/material was not there and the true color was more dark (the online picture is definitely less exciting, I assume it approximates what you saw in reality).
goldenmeans- I have been taunted so many times too LOL. I think the online pic os a little more accurate. It’s not really a dark red but it’s not bright either.
Stephanie- I hear ya!
Telly- Totally frustrating
Gigi- Thanks! The online order wasn’t too bad. Although, my bag has been pushed back to 12-2, booooo!
