I have 4 quick J.Crew reviews for you. This is the last of the items I tried on last weekend but I do have reviews to come from my online order. For those wondering, the Gathered tie front top did fit pretty well in the XXS. It definitely would have been too big in the XS. I am debating about keeping it though.. I’m not sure if it is flattering. I’ll get pics soon, so you can help me decide!

I tried this on in an XS. I really like Fair Isle patterns but didn’t find this cardigan flattering. It flattens the chest and added bulk to the waist. I also was not fond of the buttons on each side of stomach . They seem completely out of place. The cardigan has shortened sleeves and it hits higher on the waist than most JC sweaters. It hits right at the spot that makes me look disproportional and hippy. I don’t recall the fabric being itchy. It is a thick and warm knit.

I didn’t get a very good pic of this one but I wanted to share anyway so you could see the scale of the rose. The embellishment is large, awkward, and feels like it is growing out of my chest. It does not even look like a flower, just a mash of fabric in my opinion. This is a size 0 which is too big. No surprise though because I can never wear JC camis. This top is particularly wide across the waist on me. The fabric is very gold and has a pretty metallic sparkle.

This is such a pretty skirt. My 6 year old plucked it off the rack and insisted I try it on. Even though the store only had a size 4 and I knew it would be too big, I indulged her and myself lol. For a size 4, the fit was not too huge. It was big but I could probably take a 2 if I wanted to wear it low on the waist. I think I’d stick with a 0 though because I like pencil skirts to sit on the natural waist. I am holding the skirt up behind my back to give an idea of fit here. The fabric is quite light weight and covered completely in small sequins. It sparkles beautifully without being obnoxious. I’m not in love with the elastic waist band. It doesn’t seem to match up with the workmanship in the rest of the skirt.

One day I will find a tiered top that looks cute on me, but today is not that day. This is a size 0. The top is okay on the bottom but the top half is too large. The third ruffles falls in the worse spot making my chest look like it is hanging over my waist. The tie exasperates the problems. J.Crew says the ribbon is removable but I thought is was tacked to the shirt. I remember I couldn’t move the tie up and cinch down that ruffle.. On the bright side, the floral embroidery and silk fabric are lovely.
Have you tried on any of these pieces? What do you think of them?
Also! Hooray for an extra 20% off J.Crew sale! Are you buying anything?? I haven’t taken a peek online yet….trying to avoid it lol

The Stardust skirt is really really fresh!
I am with you on the Stardust Pencil Skirt — love it but not the waistband. I was also concerned about it getting snagged. I do love the look of it though and it looks great on you. And wow, thanks for trying on the metallic gypsy cami. Unreal how big that flower is, reminds me of Anthro but supersized.
Every time I see the Gypsy Rose Cami I have to say….what were they thinking? I usually come around and fall in love with their embellished camis but I just don’t see that happening with this one. I do like the tiered cami on you though!
I finally broke my husband-imposed J Crew shopping break and ordered the ruffled collier, vicose tangp and olive tops today…..I just couldn’t help myself
)
The skirt looks beautiful on you! I have trouble with pencils, as they tend to push out in the back and narrow too much at the knees, but that hangs just right on you. Listen to your 6 year old.
Wow, thanks for taking one for the team on that gypsy rose cami–fug! I know that you are tiny but the cami and tiered top are ginormous on you. I take a 0 these days and I know that I am SO not a 0. JC is really sizing out a lot of people.
I bought the stardust pencil after some serious thought but am glad I did. I did find that it fits smaller than J.Crew’s usual sizing. I love the way the sequins are on it and I have some IRLs I took on my blog. You look great in it! That Gypsy Rose top is some serious What Were They Thinking. The flower is HUGE! I love the tiered vintage fleur top but am wondering how I would look in it, especially if you can’t move the ribbon tie to a more flattering level. Thanks for the reviews!
The stardust pencil skirt looks lovely on you. It’s a bummer that they used cheap elastic on such a fine piece, but it’s still a stunning skirt. Thanks for posting the pic of the Fair Isle cardi. I thought I’d like this one, but you brought to my attention the bulk and the weird placement of those buttons (WTF?). I think I’ll pass…Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Keep up the great work on the new blog…love it!
R U Kidding? Everything looks GREAT on U!
Thanks for your thoughts ladies! I am loving that stardust skirt. May be a good thing the store was sold out of my size. The cami is truly silly on me, isn’t it lol. That “rose” is as big as my head
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!
Hi,
Super post, Need to mark it on Digg
Ivan
Shannon, i like everything on you — the skirt, sweater, etc. I bought the Gypsy rose cami and felt overwhelmed by the flower, so i returned it. I loved the material though. I have the tiered fleur top in two sizes and can’t decide which fits better, a more blouson look or fitted. You can remove the ribbon, btw. Do you think it could be too wide and a size 00 would be better?
