J.Crew’s Metallic tweed charmed mini bag is here and it is fabulous
Since the mini bag was back ordered, I have been patiently waiting it’s arrival for a few weeks. I am very pleased that the bag did not disappoint!
The first thing I noticed when unpacking it, is that the little bag is hefty. The chain gives it some weight! Since it is a cross body bag though, the chain does not weigh you down when worn.
I’ve been looking for a cross body bag for awhile. This will be perfect for when I am out shopping and do not want to keep pushing my purse up on my shoulder. The bag is small so my full size MBMJ turnlock wallet will not fit in it. But the necessities, a couple credit cards, carmex, Iphone, keys, and mints will fit just fine. An eye glass case or sunglasses won’t quite cut it. The bag latches closed securely and closes up tight, so I don’t have to worry about loose items making a get away.
The mini bag really can’t be worn any other way besides cross body. You can try wrapping the chain around your arm a couple times to shorten the length but that tends to start cutting off the circulation lol.
The tweed wool has great texture and the metallic gold thread adds polish. The fabric is slightly fuzzy with a couple of thread ends poking out here and there but it feels tight. I don’t expect the knit to unravel but I will be cautious with it. The bag is trimmed in black patent leather. The inside is fully lined with a beige cotton. There are two compartments with one tiny little patch pocket for cards.
Each side of the bag has gold colored brackets holding the pleats together and attaching the chain. This all feels pretty secure and it gives the bag structer. I was worried that the mini bag would be one of those flat nothings of a bag like the Lexi but it is not.
The gold brass is a nice shade. Not too orange or green. It’s on the softer side of yellow rather than uber bright and cheap like some plate. I am crossing my fingers that the plating holds up. I will be heart broken if it starts to peel or wear through.
The charms on the bag are quite pretty. It’s a collection of smoked glass, faux pearl, and gold plate beads. The beads are wire wrapped and feel securely attached. There no skill in the wire wrapping though lol, it’s pretty sloppy. But I say that as a jewelry maker, most people won’t notice. I will probably rewrap them at some point.
J.Crew calls the metallic mini bag.. “so Parisian and so chic” and I have to say, I CAN see myself using this bag when I am in Paris next year.

Oh it’s so beautiful Shannon. Good purchase!
Gorgeous bag Shannon, thanks for the review and photos. I would love this but I’m also wondering if the metal will flake or wear off. Hate it when that happens, ruins the whole bag. Looks so cute and stylish on you!
Thank you ladies! I’ll definitely report if I have any issue with the metals
I love the bag and pulled the trigger today with the 25% off promo! It’s backordered until the middle of next month though.
Can you tell me the brand of the shoes you are wearing? Thanks!
Ooooh can I tell you how jealous I am of your right now. The photos are beautiful and really capture the details. What a great deal!
Ooooh pretty and shinny….I feel like a magpie – I want it

That’s darling. Great review!
Thanks, Shannon! Your post helped me take the leap and buy it with the 25% off promo, I saw your review and pictures afterwards and I’m glad I did! Can’t wait to get it!
Oooooo, ah, pretty. Confessing serious case of IRL pic purse envy (far rarer than the online grabby hands kind.) Glad to hear it’s well-made for the price. Metallic threads woven in the tweed a nice luxe touch. Are you having hard time keeping DD away from “mommy’s bag” yet? And think it will fit right in on the London tube or Paris metro in 2010 too. Enjoy!
Very OT but just noodling around fab new site and noticed you’re a fan of Mary Queen of Shops too. First person “south of the border” I’ve “met” who knows the show. Always want to share that & a Canadian production called “Renovate My Wardrobe” (physical closet + wardrobe makeover with re-working of pieces you don’t wear by a stylist) with U.S. friends. FYI, heard she has a new site launching in Jan, based in part on her “how to shop” book w/ same Brit sensibility, humour.

Great review! I also bought this bag with the 20% offer but am going to return it–a few pearls already fell off. I’m so disappointed in this Collection item but I’m glad yours arrived safely!
Kathy- I hope you love the bag! The boots are Anthropologie’s juxtaposition booties. The brand is antelope
Snactres- I hope you love the bag too!
Midwestern- Oh no, what a bummer! Was it the tear drop pearls? I see they are the only beads that the wire doesn’t go completely through, so they must have glued the headpin in.
Anne- SO funny that you asked. As soon as I took it out of the box dd yelled from across the room, “that’s my bag”! She keeps insisting that it is “too fashion” for me and I should let her take it to kindergarten. I can use the my little pony lunch box instead. Gee thanks lol!
I LOVE Mary queen of shops! I didn’t know she had a book, must have it. I think I missed the season finale this week! It was suppose to be on after Ramsays, I recorded them both but her episode was Rumpelstiltskin’s, not the return to the shops season ender. I’ll be ticked if they don’t air it!!
Hi Shannon, yup, it was the pearls! I am debating if I should order another one or sit this one out… it’s a great dressy crossbody bag though! Love your blog!
Thank you for your review!
I just bought one, I can’t wait to see IRL!
Lovely review Shannon. (And great pictures as well!) The bag looks beyond adorable.
