I went to Anthropologie last night and tried on a ton of stuff. The dressing room gal scoffed at me when she saw how much I had lol. Unfortunately, my photos did not turn out great. I’m very annoyed with my IPhone. The camera positively sucks in low light. I guess it’s time to give up on the convenient size of a phone and bring a real camera. I’d like to use my Nikon but the shutter is embarrassingly loud. If only it had a stealth mode..
Rather than spend weeks posting my usual long winded review of each item, I thought it would be fun to ask you to tell me your opinions on what I tried on. Which of these, if any, are truly flattering on me. Better yet, do you think any of them fit my new shopping strategy of dressy versatile basics?
I’ll keep my opinions to myself for now. But of course, feel free to ask any sizing or fit questions you may have.

Dandelion wish dress sz 0, $188
Btw, I just ordered one of these online. Can you guess which one?

I like the lime juice dress best. It’s very cute and it looks great on you!
I really like the top two dresses on you, as well as the Skyfall Dress and Vermillion Flurry blouse. I’m a terrible guesser…did you order the Crop Patterns Dress?
I like the lime juice and converging roads dresses on you.
Oh no, you’re making us guess!
Ok, my 2 cents: I think the Lime Juice dress looks fabulous on you! It’s not what I’d call a versatile dress, but I’m really hoping that’s the one you got b/c a dress like that comes once in a blue moon.
Okay, I hunkered down for some analysis b/c I love looking at clothes (and this is better than me “window shopping” online).
*Albertine dress – It’s cute on you and on sale. Versatile? A good day to night dress, but it’s definitely dressy with the sheer top.
*Converging roads dress – seems the most versatile and the shape looks good on you. Love the pockets. However the color is majorly washing you out. If it were in a different color I’d say yay, but as it is, that one’s a pass.
*Crop Patterns dress – cute! Great shape for you, good color on you, and it’s on sale. Is this the one you got?
*Dandelion Wish dress – similar cut to the above, slightly more versatile because of the coloring. Howev, I’m not loving the stripes at the bottom, which are making the top look smaller. I like the CP dress more.
*Gumshoe sweatercoat – you and Kim! This is tre cute, could be worn with many things. Maybe this one.
*Grand Cru – love this dress. It’s so much fun…but not versatile. Great party dress, though.
*Ice Capped blouse – pretty, but don’t you have a similar top? This could be dressed up or down, but it’s not an entire outfit like a dress is. Hm.
*Into the night top – cute! I kind of love it. But it also kind of looks like you’re wearing an apron. Versatile color, but…pass.
*Lime juice dress – my fav. pick! This looks fabulous on you – good color, good shape that accentuates your curves in the right places, shows off the waist. But incredibly dressy, not versatile. Great for dinner out or a date, but I wouldn’t want to do chores or go to a baseball game in this dress.
*Shimmer striped dress – pass! It’s all wrong all over. The stripes and neckline are doing nothing but giving you a weird shape.
*Skyfall dress – cute, sporty, drum majorette. Both casual and dressy? How is the material on this one? I really like it, but am not sure how well it would “dress up,” though I’m sure it could be done with the right coat/hair/makeup/shoes.
*Vermilion flurry top – It looks great on you but versatile? Seems dressy, maybe could be casual-fied with jeans.
* Window pane dress – very Joan from Madmen. Versatile, but not the best cut for you since it’s making you look wider than usual.
*Windsor scoopneck – love/hate this one. I like the idea of the draping, but the bunchiness at the hip/leg seems a bit too voluminous.
After all that, I have no idea what you ordered, LOL! I guess perhaps the Albertine, the Crop Patterns, the Skyfall, or the Vermilion. But really – no idea.
Diana- I love your analysis, that was a fun read!
Thanks for your thoughts everyone! I am straining to keep quiet until after more comments lol
i agree- the lime juice as well as the converging roads dress look good- i don’t mind the color!
i think the gumshoe sweatercoat is flattering on you as well.
The Lime Juice dress looks gorgeous on you. I also like the gumshoe sweatercoat, which could be pretty versatile, and the Ice capped blouse. I tried the Windsor Scoopneck and love it but I had to go up a size (I am usually xs) for it to drape better.
lime juice, converging roads and gumshoe! they all look great on you and I think they fit the bill of fun basics. can’t wait to find out which one you ordered!
Yes: Converging, Vermillion, and Windsor. Not so crazy about the others.
I like the into the night blouse!
Well, I hope you bought the Vermillion Flurry blouse because the color is gorgeous on you.
I think the Albertine, Crop Circles, Skyfall, and Lime Juice dresses could all be perfect items to add to your wardrobe that can be changed up with boots, pumps, leg wear, cardigans, scarves, and jackets.
I’m guessing the Albertine might have been too revealing in the top area, even though the pattern and shape is way on trend and it could really work for a ton of outfits.
I think the Crop Circles dress is a steal, a great shape on you, wonderful for all seasons, yet, I’m guessing you didn’t pick it because it was too busy. I think for that reason precisely it would work nonetheless, as a shot of interest in a basics wardrobe.
I think the Skyfall, while gorgeous, maybe wouldn’t be as versatile due to the flowiness. It looks like chiffon; highly unlikely to go from the grocery store to the movies. On the other hand, the design is really neat, and the color seems like it would go great in your wardrobe.
The Lime Juice, fits fabulously and is a gorgeous color. My one reason that I would think this would not be the one you got is that the collar is the main point of interest, but you were talking about wanting to find things to go with your cardigans, and this is the type of collar that some would hesitate to cover, particularly since it’s the sole point of interest. Yet, it might have won out.
FUN!
Love the converging roads fit on you, the color isnt great though. The Gumshoe sweater coat looks great, but again I think those oatmeal colors are just so-so…You’re lucky the Gumshoe looks so cute on you – it was just “meh” on me…
Thanks for your thoughts ladies! It’s so funny, I would have never guessed so many would have liked the lime juice dress. It’s a very pretty dress but not something I saw as my style. Goes to show, it’s nice to have another set of eyes! The lime juice was dh’s pick too. He is feels quite proud and fashionable that he picked the same one as you all lmao.
My pick should arrive any day now, so I will post a photo when it gets here rather than spill now
I really think the Albertine dress is the most flattering and versatile. The Lime Juice dress is cute but I don’t believe it will be “a go to” dress when you just want to dash out the door or pack for a trip. Grand Cru is my runner up only because I don’t believe it is as versatile as the Albertine. I would stay away from oatmeal, ivory and light taupe shades with your coloring as they seem to wash you out vs energize you. Into The Night is a pass as you will look like the caterer — the extra piece looks like an apron. Crop Patterns needs extra help out on top as the patterns don’t match and it makes one side look bigger than the other. If you had matching plaid on top it could be a cute dress. All of your choices were lovely and you wouldn’t see yourself coming and going. I think the vermillion Flutter Top is a great color for you but not the bands on the sleeves. I’m looking forward to the reveal. Thanks for a virtual trip to the fittingroom.
