I feel like I could use a little reader feedback once again. I hope you don’t mind sharing your thoughts with me
Since starting the blog I’ve posted on some topics regularly, like my Anthropologie reviews. Other topics I’ve posted on and off: make up, sale codes, shopping picks. But it can be difficult to tell if anyone is really interested in reading these posts. The only way I have to tell if a topic interests readers is by the comments left. But only about 1% or less of the blog readers are leaving a comment. I’m not sure why the comments are so low.. Maybe it’s because the wordpress comment layout is different than the blogspot blogs?
Anyway, on one hand I am going to of course write about whatever topic strikes my fancy at the time. No sense in forcing a post on something I am meh about. But there are times when I am hesitant to spend the time writing something that no one is interested in chatting about. For example, I’ve been thinking about writing a wearable looks from the Spring runway post and a series on favorite beauty products.
To help me figure out which topics are worth perusing and which not, I’ve put together a quick poll. I hope you’ll take a minute and just check off each topic that interests you.
___________
A quick clarification on a couple of the topics listed:
(Feel free to skip this if you do not need further explanation)
Current retail discount codes- These are the standard codes available by retailers that you get via email or are available on other sites. If I get a special tip or promo code for readers, I would of course post it.
New retail releases- A post covering my thoughts or favorites from the new items available on J.Crew, Anthro, and other websites. (Not irl reviews) Since this is covered on other blogs I’ve been hesitant about rehashing
My wishlist-My personal want list. May be somewhat random items, one or many.
Themed shopping lists and picks- Some of my fav items from various sites usually in a theme or outfit sets. Similar to the Valentine’s day post a couple days ago.
Runway picks and trends: Highlighting my favorite items from the runway and the trends
Styling ideas from the runway and web- Styling ideas for a specific piece of clothing using runway and/or catalog/web photos.
Book reviews and reading lists- What I’m reading, what I want to read next. Short reviews of what I just read.
Vegetarian recipes & food photos- My fav vegetarian recipes. Most can be easily converted for meat eaters. With pics.
Outfit Redux- Readers share their ideas on how I could style an old item from my closet. Follow up post with results
Misc life ramblings by moi- Musings on the nature of the universe or whether or not I should buy that pair of shoes.
Shopping & wardrobe planning- Building, shopping, and organizing the prefect wardrobe. Reader input certainly needed as I am still learning myself!

Big thanks to everyone who took the time to let me know your thoughts!!

Hi, I woud like to vote but cannot for some reason. Not sure if it is just me. I will try again tomorrow. With that being said, I really enjoy your blog. In fact based on one of your reviews I purchased something from J.Crew…….. the Lady Day coat in chocolate (a petitie 4 with thinsulate). The Lady Day coat is gorgeous, sleeves are a little short, you were right, and FYI there is no thinsulate in the sleeves. Slight bummer. I live where winter doesn’t end until April. So with way too much information here I really like the discussions of the quality and fit of a piece you write about. Again, I will try to vote tomorrow and pleeeeeeaaaaaassssssseeeeeee keep posting.
Oh and your hair looks great!
Hi Josie-Thanks for your thoughts! I hope you are loving the Lady Day! TY about the hair
I’m sorry you couldn’t vote. Seems to be working now but I’m logged in so it’s hard to tell. If anyone else has a problem please let me know!
I love seeing outfits of the day and dressing room reviews! It is not always possible for me to go to the actual store as I have a very active, dislikes shopping, 1 year old.
Actually, it is nearly impossible! Anyway, I too like hearing about the quality and fit of Anthropolie and J crew items especially. I also like seeing your cute outfits of the day. I personally am not as interested in runway outfits but that’s just me. I love your blog! Keep up the good work! By the way, I am from the Seattle area too.
-Ashley
Ashley- Hi, so fun to see locals reading! I know what you mean about shopping impossibility lol. My dd is finally getting use to going out but it was a long, whiny road!
Even though I have a JCrew in my town – it’s totally a pain to get to it (off street parking or cave in & use parking garages – which give me the willies) & we don’t have an Anthro in town either. It’s great to see what clothing items look like a real person & not a highly staged/photo-shopped model & your styling of the outfits are an added bonus as I can’t style an outfit to save my life!
I don’t typically leave comments as I read 99% of my blogs within Google Reader & if there is a way to post comments to a blog without leaving Reader – I don’t know how yet. Plus I have such a limited amount of time to get on the computer (before or after work assuming I don’t have a house full of busy work to do) & it’s always my priority to read the blogs & keep up with that rather than comment. Lame I know – but know that even if I don’t comment it’s not from lack of enthusiasm or that I don’t care – it’s crummy time management on my part. Anyways, I did want to let you know that you are one of my most fav blogs & I really appreciate your efforts & even if I don’t post comments often doesn’t mean i don’t keep up with your new posts – I’m darn near addicted now! Thanks so much Shannon! Jane
Hi Jane, Thanks for your thoughts! I completely know what you mean about not having a lot of time for comments. I shouldn’t even wonder why readers don’t have time to post as I rarely do on the blogs I read lol. Sometimes it’s just nice to check in and make sure your going in the right direction
Thanks to everyone who took the poll! The results so far are very educational. I wouldn’t have guessed that so many were interested in reading my ramblings lol
I am guilty of reading but not commenting and I’m sorry! But I must say that I love your outfits, you have great syle! I have you in my google reader so it is little more of a chore to click over and comment.
Just have to tell you that I love how frequently you post and I am always interested in what you have to say. It’s so cool that you respond to readers. I wanted input a few months back on a J. Crew item and I think you responded within an hour. So cool.
Most importantly, I appreciate your voice. It’s refreshingly real. Thanks!
Thank you Megan!
Google reader is a blessing and a curse. Well that’s an exaggeration lol but I just started using it and can go through my blog reading list so much faster now but I don’t click through and post nearly as much as I use to
I’d be interested in thoughts/reviews on any fashion books you received over the holidays.
I am super interested in the outfit redux since we all are buying less these days…it’d be great to get ideas on how to restyle stuff!!
Shannon, I love your misc. ramblings! AND I think you have a special skill for wardrobe planning. Have you thought about taking reader questions occasionally, and turning that into a post? For example: What should I bring to Paris in April for a romantic one-week holiday with DH? hehe, okay that would be my question, but I am sure some other readers may have similar queries.
I also love your make-up, hair , beauty product posts, and of course the clothing reviews!
DaniBP- I did have the Q&A/Question of the day posts last week for off topic questions and chat but it didn’t catch on much. I do still have a couple questions to answer (in case your wondering ladies, I did not forget! It’s just that long winded answers are winding around my brain lol) I LOVE your question Dani and I will make up a post about it soon. BTW- Paris in the spring, how exciting!!
Well ladies, I am off soon to have all four of my wisdom teeth out *wimper* Depending on how it goes I may not be posting for a bit. OR I may be posting some crazy medicated ramblings. Imagine the great stuff I could order in a vicodin induced shopping haze!
Hi,
I always read your blog but never commented! I love your blog and think your reviews are very helpful! I voted above, but personally I would love to see runway to real life type posts..and of course keep posting your oufits and regular reviews, love them!!
Hey, Shannon — I took the poll yesterday. Thanks for checking in with your readers to find out what interests us the most. Of course, I love all of your posts, but if I had to list my favorites, it would be: clothing and cosmetic/hair reviews, Dressing Room Jewelry updates, outfits of the day, book reviews, and misc. ramblings. I’d like to echo tastymoog’s request for some reviews of any fashion-related books you might have received for the holidays or just purchased on your own. Thanks! Oh, I wish you a speedy recovery after the pulling of the wisdom teeth! Looking forward to a medicine-crazed post, hehehe!
Oh my! Good luck with the teeth! This will pretty much be the only time a doctor prescribes painkillers and ice cream, so TAKE ADVANTAGE. I wish you a speedy recovery!
Thanks for the well wishes ladies. The appt went well and quick. I am starting to feel slightly normal after several hours of lazy couch sitting and reading. Well a foggy version of normal lol.
Dani- I’ve been thinking about your question. Have you been to Paris before? Will you be seeing the sites and museums or just lounging in cafes being lovey dovey with Dh?
I like your style so I appreciate whatever interests you as far as clothing, OOTD, and I especially have agreed with your opinion on alot of JCrew merchandise. In real life pic’s on blogs are the best, especially love a variety of body types to get a ‘true’ sense of what the actual item looks like.
I really like OOTD, JCrew & Anthro reviews (some other retailers but no so much as I’m 99.9% a JCrew buyer trying to incorporate a bit of Anthro in where I am able). I like your jewelry creations even though I don’t buy/wear much more then my pearl studs (although I’ve started incorporating more earring styles in and am loving the piled-on-bracelet look).
I usually try to comment but to be honest I don’t usually have much to add.
So, in a nutshell, anything about JCrew & Anthro (although JCrew ranks up at #1), your style/take and random topics on anything.
Shannon I love that you are vegetarian too! Vegetarian cooking plus fashion would equal a dream blog!
Hi Shannon, I hope you are recovering nicely from your dental surgery!
I have NOT been to Paris before! I am tres excited. Our goal is to spend lots of time at the museums, but of course we’ll be eating out every night and stopping for drinks etc during the day as well. I can’t wait to go to the Louvre and the Musee D’Orsay, early April though so I am anticipating it will be chilly. I have the same mini-tweed bag that you do, it is going to be great for travelling b/c of the way it slings across the body! Any suggestions you have will be most appreciated!
