What's in my bag: Lands' End Canvas

Okay I can’t help but jump on the Lands’ End canvas bandwagon. The more time I spend checking out LE’s new contemporary fit line, the more stuff ends up in my shopping cart. I’m up to over $300 now; this is no good lol.

I never did buy that JC navy check shirt and this one is quite a bit less.

What do you think of the Lands’ End canvas line? I am curious if the fit will be small enough for me. Some items come in XXS, so that is promising. Does anyone know if this line is carried in stores?

I have been eyeing that belt for a while. If you do happen to get it, can you let me know how it fits?

    Thanks,

  • MJ

I actually caved when someone on JCA offered 20% off and FS codes. I bought the vest and almost bought the belt (but decided not to, I just bought a wide belt that should do the trick). Anyway, the vest is due to arrive today.

I love the shirt too but I spotted a gingham shirt back home which was totally stunning, with smaller checks. Waiting on finding out whether my sister found it or not.

  • Bwaa ha ha ha! YAY! I have totally been feeling the same way! I would love to hear your review if your ever try any of this stuff out. Their old sizing was SO boxy.

I ordered a few things, the gingham shirt in light blue being one of them, to replace a very old (approx. 10 yrs.!) short sleeve version that has been on its last leg for a few years now. I ordered the 0 and hope it fits (I wear a PXS in jcrew’s slim stretch shirts).

  • I’m not sure if you are just able to purchase through the catalog and website, but I know that you are able to return Lands End at Sears, as they bought them a couple years ago. I think (maybe?) some items are available for purchase at some Sears locations. I glanced at the Sears website and didn’t see anything about Lands End.

I ordered a couple tops with their last promo and one came today. It’s the short-sleeve ruffle front shirt and it’s VERY cute! The material is softer than the regular Land’s End line and it’s got a really cute cut. I’m normally a size 4 in JCrew and I ordered the size 2 in this top because the sizing chart puts me there. Well, it’s too small on me! Tight around the arms and the mid-section, so I immediately got on the phone with customer service and they are sending me a size 4 with free shipping right away. The CS rep told me I could either return to a Sears store or send the shirt back to them with the enclosed label.

Also, I was at Sears this week returning some Land’s End snowboots I bought for the kids and I happened upon a Heritage Cardigan from the regular Land’s End line (didn’t see anything from the Canvas line in store) that was 50% off the clearance price – I got it for $15! It’s navy in a size XS petite and it fits perfectly, but it is from the regular “traditional fit” line. IMO, it fits just like the JCrew Jackie, but it’s bit thicker, more substantial of a knit. I love it!

Just a warning about the vest – definitely nice knit but the colour is much more greyish than the warm tones of the cream. I am still on the fence about it because of that since my complexion doesn’t suit the cooler undertones (or makes matching harder). It also sits kind of funny around the hips on the back side with a belt on, it takes a bit of fiddling to make it look good.

MJ-Thanks for the update on the vest! Bummer about the color. I can’t do cool tones either :(

MRQ-Thanks for your reviews! The sizing sounds promising!!

  • I’m glad there’s hype going around about the Canvas line bc I am in love with them. I already have two of their gingham shirts and I think they are way better than the checked navy one from JC a few seasons ago. The fit for those shirts are slender but not tight and I got my regular size 2 which fit fine. Lands’ End is also offering lots of discounts right now, that I can’t help but keep going back.

The fit is small and narrow! I too went on a canvas bender at their summer sale. I am normally a comfy 8, sometimes a 6. I bought canvas zippered capris in an 8, and I couldn’t get them past my hips! The fabric felt great on the part it covered. I also bought two different pairs of shorts one fit perfectly and one not at all. Not sure why this happened, since some fit and some didn’t. There is a shawl collar cardigan that i bought in a small, and it fits well, big if anything. I hope they work out their kinks in sizing. It could be a great line!
