Last night I went to Nordstrom in search of a pair of straight leg jeans. The first paired I tried on was a review request from Stephanie. She spotted the Paige Skylines on the paige site last week. They looked great and I was eager to try them!
Paige premium Skyline straight leg in Dusk
I took my usual jeans size 26 in the Skylines. This is the same size I take in Paige’s Hidden Hills. The fit is basically perfect. The jeans are snug in the bum and thighs. I had a little bit of creasing under the butt when I first put them on. But I’ve been wearing them all day today (yes, I bought them!) and the jeans are relaxing just slightly. The fit from the knee up feels very much like my hidden hills jeans. That pair also relaxed but has never gotten baggy or stretched out. I’m hoping the skylines wear the same. Also like my Hidden Hills, I have a tiny bit of extra room behind the waist. Since I need the leg taken up anyway, I will take these to the tailor and have the waist taken in. It’s less than an inch gap but I like a perfectly flat waist band.

The pocket placement on the Skyline is just right for me.

Citizen’s of Humanity Elson Mid-rise straight leg
For the COH Elson jeans I tried on the 27 , a size up, because I’ve had to size up with them in the past. I think it’s the petite version in COH’s Ava that I have in a larger size. But I should have taken my usual size in the Elson because they were definitely too big. Even baggy I could tell they were a great jean. I was torn for a moment between these and the Paige’s. I decided to go with the Paige because her material is a little more body hugging. The Citizen’s are made in a very soft denim that hangs beautifully but it’s not as sleek as Paige.

There’s a lot of creasing in the pics because this pair was too big. Loved the pocket placement on these as well.

7 For All Mankind straight leg in Rinse
This was the best fitting 7s I have ever tried. I sized up to a 27 in these because in the past I’ve had a very hard time squeezing my ample butt into a pair of SFAMK lol. These jeans look fantastic from the front. A bit hippy in the pic because of how I have the camera. They were curve hugging and sleek. However, like most 7s I have tried, I had some gaping in the back. I would definitely need these take in. Probably 2 inches. I’ve have always thought SFAMK is fantastic on slim hipped, rectagular figured gals. But they can be tricky on those of us with hips and a small waist.

The back pocket placement on these was a little low for my taste. That might have been resolved with having the waist taken in though. These look pretty dumpy on me from the back because of that waist gap. They need to be pulled up!

All and all, it was a surprisingly successful denim shopping day. Normally, I find jean sizing all over the place and end up leaving the dressing room feeling like I better lunge and jumping jack my 33 year old ass all the way back home.

Thanks for sharing your denim try-on with us! And glad the Paige’s work for you, at least pretty freakin’ close. Funny that they were the first ones you pulled on. Denim is always such a fitting room, self-examination test. And good reminder that a bit of tailoring can do wonders. One of my dreams would be to find a pair of jeans right off rack that fit in the length and the waist. Jealous that boys and men get so many different inseams to choose from so they don’t have to spend even more.
Shannon, My Paige Laurel Canyon jeans is my favorite pair so far. Thanks for introducing me to other Paige products. However, can you enlighten me on what’s the difference between Laurel Canyon, Hollywood Hills and Hidden Hills? There’s some explanation on their website but I would appreciate hearing from you. I would like to add more Paige jeans to my wardrobe. Thanks in advance.
Have you tried on the James Jeans Twiggy leggings? They have them at Anthro and I found the fit and length fantastic. I’m 5’5 and the inseam was great and the fit overall good. Also today on my annual trip to Anthro today I tried on and had to buy the AG stevie skinny crop in black – these were so flattering and slenderizing I had to get them!! I highly recommend these. I haven’t tried any Paige jeans on but will give them a shot next time I’m out shopping. I really like the skylines on you.
Ooh, I love this post. I’d love to see more posts about designer denim from you, since you are pretty familiar with it! I am still learning about premium denim and have found a couple of brands that work best for me, but I am always willing to learn more! Glad you found a pair that worked for you. Paige is not a brand I’ve tried yet
Getfresh- I knowwww, I hate having to get hemmed. Although, I was looking at high end denim for dh last week and I realized they don’t have the usual guy inseam selection! I knew he would never take them in to get hemmed, so I ordered JC instead lol.
Marie- I thought I heard that the LC and Hollywood Hills fit smaller and less curvy than Hidden Hills but I haven’t tried them yet. Next time I’m at Nordies I will grab a variety of Paige cuts and do some comparing!
Ana- I haven’t! I only tried the Joe’s leggings so far. Thanks for the recs though, I will need some skinny crops this year.
Appgal-Glad you liked the post!!
Shannon, thanks for reviewing the Paige jeans! They look great on you, and I am very interested in trying them after this review. I always wear straight leg jeans, as opposed to true skinny jeans, because I just like the look of them better on me. My favorite pair of straight leg jeans is probably the 7FAMK Straight Leg jean in New York Dark, and I also like the LA Dark wash as well. I have been interested in trying another brand though, and Paige is looking like a good option.
You definitely picked the right jeans! I love those Paiges on you. They’re perfect
Those Paige jeans look amazing on you! I love Paige jeans. I previously loved the Laurel Canyon and I actually own three pair of Laurel Canyon maternity jeans and love them. I remember emailing the company once and they told me the difference b/w the styles. I believe the Hidden Hills is very similar to Laurel Canyon, but higher rise (but still a low-rise).
You look great! I am wondering about the butt crease thing. You noticed it but it went away. I have a pair of Paige that didn’t have the crease but then it appeared. I have to wash them to get it to go away. Any thoughts on what causes that? Is it too much strech (lycra), not enough stretch or is it a manufacturing fit problem? I have always wondered. J brands never have the crease, Gap jeans do etc. I’m the same size as you or maybe a 25 in some jeans so it’s not my body is it?????
Minki- sounds like your in great shape, so can’t be you. Do you get the crease after wearing them for awhile? Sounds like the fabric is sagging maybe from too much Lycra. My Paige jeans have 20-40% poly though and they hold their shape really well. How is the pocket placement? If they sit too low it can crease. Could it just be that they are too big for you? Maybe you need a slimmer fit.
If you bought the jeans from nordstrom and are not happy with them, I’m sure they’d let you exchange for a better fit
sorry if this sounds incoherent lol. I am med-ed out from my surgery Wed.
