Oh my gosh Shannon, I am *cracking* up here. Your commentary is excellent! I especially loved “19th century sweatpants”
These looks are…umm…something else.
Julie
This is good for my wallet! There is nothing from this “homeless grandma” collection that I like!

Love the commentary, hate the looks. I think that there was one piece I liked (the brown plaid overcoat). In the group pictures there was one girl wearing footless socks (leg warmers, maybe? they were pulled down to her arch) with high-heeled peep-toe/sandals. Come ON! Jenna said that they don’t intend for people to dress like this, but she hopes they do. Mmmhmmm,,,,

This is hilarious, Shannon! I love the haystack hat…OMG–fall 2010 at JC is scaring me. What in the hell is going on with their designers? I only have one word for it: blech!!!
Shannon
LMAO at haystack hat and homeless grandma!
You really have to look hard to find the wearable pieces!
Silver_lining-Oh yes plaid overcoat and legwarmers in part 2 tomorrow
I understand that this stuff is styled up for the fashion rags. I think my main issue right now is the proportions don’t look like they’re going to work for me. Every bottom looks so short, and come fall it gets really chilly in NYC! I love tights, but 17 inches of skirt and tights are not going to keep me warm on a 40 degree day! (Plus, really, no one wants to see that much of my legs.)

I love the commentary…I was laughing out loud and my dogs think I’m crazy. I DON’T like the whole homeless look but here are some of the looks I DO like:
Tights under shorts
Sweatpant-leggings
Moccasins!
HATE:
All the neutrals! It looks so dead! Let’s see some color like the old J Crew!
Jane
Hilarious post!! Oh gosh I nearly passed out from laughing so hard Love the running commentary – especially the “hay”! I didn’t want it to end – but if everything else in JCrew’s fall lineup looks like the hot messes you featured, then there will be more hopefully!

Ugh, the whole thing is just too Alexa Chung. I think she has great style but Jenna Lyons’ admiration of her London look is just going to far now, it may fit the zeitgeist but not J Crew Loyalistas.

Jenna Lyons talked about the inspiration for the Collection as “Little Edie goes to summer camp”. That’s pretty out there. Who wants to look like that?
I’m laughing my butt off here at your commentary, I love it and I hope there’s more to come!

ROTFL, JC should incorporate your IRL commentary in their fall preview booklet! I find it very “interesting” that they would showcase “real women” in a recent catalogue and then go for ridiculous Braeheart Gone Really Bad styling (all that’s missing is a Mel Gibson braids and blue hair streak) like this at a show – although I understand they are aimed at completely different audiences. Starting to see a big brand/ core customer disconnect. And when did “UPS Man” and sad plaid become a colour palette for a retailer whose colour schemes I used to love, look to for non-neutral inspiration? I get trying to appeal to a younger demographic, but most of all would appreciate some pieces that are not cut-off or super-short that I can actually wear. Guess I will be stocking up on tights, and that’s pretty much it. Looking forward to Part II…

Been reading your site for awhile, but I just loved your commentary for these pics. LOL. Whats with the “cut off boyfried chinos” and the “fleece pullover”? I think mr. J. Crew is slowly losing its mind.
Visited my local Crew this past week after I couldn’t tell you how long. I was just sooooo disappointed. Everything was just so messy and I don’t mean the store I mean the designs. Sloppy, half hazard, DIY junk.
Stephanie
omg I can’t believe they styled these poor models this way, let alone published them! soo heinous!
Thank you Shannon! You made my Monday! And if this is part 1, how brutal will part 2 be?
Christy
OMG…this was so funny! Love you comments! HATE the clothes! Darn it too because I will just be getting back into normal clothes (expecting my 2nd this July) and was excited to save for fall clothes. Darn it…hope other retailers have some color and more fitted clothes. Just not into any of these!

I saw that this said, “J.Crew Fall 2010″ and when I looked at the photos I thought, “THIS IS J.CREW!?” It looks crazy. It doesn’t even look like J.Crew to me.
I mean, I literally laughed out loud (and still do) when I read, “Hairy mini bag”!

Its a good thing that I am moving to Africa and don’t need fall clothes anymore given how strange the fall collection is at J.Crew. More and more of my money is going to Ann Taylor and other retailers these days as the designers there are still into pretty feminine looks and not homeless campers. Unrelatable arty clothing photos are for Vogue and Vanity Fair not for retailers in the mall and I like Vogue and Vanity Fair I just wouldn’t wear what their models wear. Sorry J.Crew you’re losing your grip with reality!
