I hope you enjoyed my break down on J.Crew’s Fall 2010 line. I honestly didn’t mean for it to be brutal lol. The original intention was just to point out what WAS new under all that layering. As I picked out the individual pieces though, it just got more and more humorous.

Shannon I know your initial intent wasn’t fashion comedy/ sarcasm, but thanks for the afternoon smile! As with Part I, too many statement pieces all at once, texture overload and dull/ no colour. Itching to hem, strip off, unroll, steam/iron, tailor, brush, add some blush and ask the models to not look quite so glum about being asked to wear closet cast-offs from Davy Crockett’s, Sherlock Holmes and a WWII uniform depot.
LOL GF! It’s totally statement overload, even for a fashion show. I think Jenna is trying too hard. And I guess we should just give up on JC doing color like the old days
Don’t apologize! This was brilliant! Love it! I kind of like the colors actually, but I just love warm fall stuff. Nonetheless, when you’re wearing a mangy cat, someone ought to tell you.
It all looks so staged and fake and ridiculous, like space-aged gypsies breeding with grunge. It’s awful!!
LOL,Shannon! I’d like to see the Pimp Hat and the Mangy Cat coat together!
Oh double hilarity! I sure the heck hope at least some (if not more) of your intent was comedy/sarcasm! Brava again for an awesome play by play!
LOL, brilliant commentary again Shannon! “Pimp Hat” and the mangy cat fight fur have to be my favorite so far
These looks continue to astonish me into silence. Too, too much. And the girl in Look 7 looks a little ragamuffin referee!
Yay, love the Sherlock coat! Probably because it reminds me of the JC of old. By contrast, Talbots Fall 2010 eCatalog is available online now, and I found it to be much more accessible/cute: http://www1.talbots.com/online/ecatalog/catalog.jsp?sku=2010FallLookBook
Lol, Shannon. Even the model looks embarrassed in the pimp hat outfit. Will have to check out Talbots. They hit a home run with that lovely March catalog (peonies photo)–I wish they had more in small sizes.
Love the commentary…again! I’m hating all the fur prints…ewwwwww our goal should not be to look like animals. I do, however disagree with you on the plaid…I can’t get enough of it, especially from J Crew! I LOVE the shirt in the 5th image…and I also like the new striped cardigans!
Wow, Silver Lining–thanks for the Talbots post! That is the way to do non-mangy fur and non-pimpy hats!
What is with all the fur?! Ick! All of this is pretty awful, though I like the sherlock coat and heeled oxfords.
J. Crew’s quality is far too low for the price and their items lack the tailoring and fit I require. Also, J. Crew has been restricting the use of my student discount with other coupons, like free ship… it never used to be an issue to use more than one code, but now it is.
More of my money is going to Anthro all the time…
Thanks for the funny commentary, Shannon
Still laughing!!!!
These are just ridiculous!
LOL on your comments. They’re spot on!
I’m drooling over the Sherlock coat.
It’s all so Topshop, it makes me want to weep.
the abundance of fur is disgusting. but we all know jenna loves her animal carcass.
jcrew needs to remember they are not toast, a.p.c., steven alan, bird, la garconne, or any of those urban hobo/Dust Bowl Chic higher end retailers/boutiques. they.are.a.mass.marketed.mall.store. what jc is doing is not original, they’re just ripping off the aforementioned– and not even at an affordable price.
I just love you break downs, very witty. I’m just so disappointed in the Crew anymore and this fall line up just puts the nail in the coffin so to speak. Mangy fur, puke. I can’t tell you how long its been since I stalked an item or looked at a new roll out and knew I just had to have an item. The crew used to be so effortlessly polished and pulled together. I really don’t know why they started to emulate the Olsen twins.
PS Space age gypsy grunge, Bravo Felicity, Bravo
I’m pretty sure you need to do one post like this per day. It could be the “outfit breakdown” section of your blog. I’m. A. Fan.
sooo absurd! How could they honestly put out a line like this?? News flash to J.Crew – your customers don’t want to look like homeless people!
Hi Shannon, I’ve been following your blog for a while but have never commented before! I love this breakdown, I often wonder “what on earth is under there” with J.Crew’s crazy layering and you showed that sometimes it’s better not to look too closely.
You pointed out that there are some beautiful pieces if you can get past the yard clippings as headwear and other craziness, I love some of the coats and the return of wool shorts. Great post!
I might actually want the brown floral shirt. I jwish I could see more of it. And I always love tweed pants but that length looks awkward.
Make that “I just wish I could see more of it.”
You ladies crack me up! Thanks for your comments!!
tasty moog,
i couldnt agree more!!!! let’s bring back the J.Crew of years ago of classic clothing and bright colors!!! J.crew of 2007 were the days when i would read the catalog and want everysinglething on everysinglepage. these days, i’m lucky if i can find ONE thing i like in the catalog. J.crew is losing all of its customers and trying to be all edgy, when really there’s nothing original about it. they should stick to the preppy apparel they are known for and that their customers love!!
shannon,
the pimp hat made me laugh so hard. very witty and TRUE! lol
