It’s been a real task to shop for winter clothes this year. Seems like retailers positively refuse to offer warm clothing. I pretty much gave up on trying to find sweaters and focused on layering.

Target thermals size XS or Small

I pick up a few new target thermals each year. The quality is crap and the colors are questionable lol, but they work for a season or two.

J.Crew vintage thermal henley size XS

I had high hopes for this and was a little disappointed. The fabric is nice, much thicker than you’ll normally get from JC. The purple is beautiful, that impossible to find elsewhere shade. But the sleeves are a bit strange. They feel as if they were sewn incorrectly around the shoulder and the sleeve length is shorter than I would like, with a tight cuff. Not a great layering top, more a wear on it’s own. I think this will be cute in the spring with a pencil skirt. I’m glad I did not size up to try and gain length because the body stretches out with wear.

J.Crew Funnelneck sweatshirt size XS

It’s a casual winter this year and I decided I need a sweatshirt. This one is big, soft, and warm. I went with an XS which gave me the fit like on the model, a little big and oversized. I did not want to feel trapped in a tight sweatshirt.

J.Crew Academy coat Sz 0

Of course you already know about my Academy coat. I’ve been wearing it every day.

Free People crochet cuff henley Sz XS

Since I cannot find any tops I like at Anthropologie, I’ve been building a Free People wishlist instead. I finally made it to the store on Friday and was glad I did not order online because the sizing was pretty all over the place. I took this top in an XS for a very fitted look. I’m planning on wearing it to a concert later this week.

Free People lace cuff henley sz Small

I love this top, the lace cuff is so pretty. I had a hard time picking a color but finally settled on the green. I went with my larger size in this one, a small. I am still working on figuring out what my true size in Free people is.

Free People Intarsia thermal Sz Medium

This pink thermal has not shown up online yet. It is from Free People’s Intimates collection. Not sure if it will come with matching leggings? The top comes in pink or blue and is $48. It totally reminds me of the 80s, an old school thermal that you might wear skiing. It is thick, but with a smooth texture, and very stretchy. It runs tiny though, I took a medium and the fair isle pattern still stretches out a bit much across the chest.

Citizens of Humanity Devote jeans sz 27

The next two are my meager Anthropologie black Friday order. I actually ordered Wed, so paid a bit more, but didn’t think I’d have a good chance at getting both jeans for 50% off. I decided to try a size up in the Citizens. I have never tried this cut on, crossing fingers they fit.

Joe’s Visionaire flare jeans Lainey wash sz 26

I haven’t tried this particular wash on but I decided to stick with my regular Joe’s size. Really hoping they are not cut too small in the thigh! My Citizens have already shipped but these are apparently lost some where in Anthro’s warehouse and are still pending.

American Eagle side zip bootie sz 7

At the last minute I decided to take a risk with AEs 40% off code and picked up these booties for $35. I’ve been looking for a black bootie with a low heel forever. These might fit the need while I keep my eye out for something higher quality. I have no idea if they will fit or be comfortable lol.

Ae Dolman sleeve sweater Sz Small

Again no idea on fit but I threw this in with my order since I thought it might work well over the many thermals I purchased recently. I like that the 3/4 sleeves will show off the lace and crochet cuffs of my other tops.

So that’s it for my winter shopping. Have you found any great winter pieces? What are you wearing recently?

The Gamay sweaterskirt: Unlined, very long, and made me look like I was made of play dough, ie lump city.
The Hallowell cowlneck: Extremely coarse fabric.
Harrington cowlneck: So short and weird. It’s like a scarf with sleeves, not a proper sweater. I seriously could barely figure out how to put it on.

Side Snap turtleneck XS Gold

An okay sweater. Not that thrilling. Fits short like every damn Anthro sweater these days. I didn’t find it itchy (other reviews have) nor the tneck uncomfortable. But I didn’t love the gaping buttons on the arm. On sale now for $50, not even worth that imo. Might consider it for $35.

Draped Lapel pullover Small Green

Again, super short sweater. I sized up to a Small and still could not wear it without an undershirt. Fabric is surprisingly thick and warm, which makes me not want to layer with it. Knit is definitely on the coarse side. Wasn’t impressed with the back fit. I expected to like the little buttons but the whole back of the sweater just ballooned away from the body and made me feel large. If I go for anything in this cut it will be the Contoured crewneck instead, which has a much softer material and more saturated color.

Femme Thermal Top XS Moss

First off, “Moss” is clearly grey. Why confuse us Anthro? I wore this under the Lapel pullover and it was not a comfy combo. I’m wearing an XS in the thermal but there is still so much fabric. You can see all the bunching in the arms. The material is also on the thicker side, normally that would be a good thing, but it’s all just too much for a layering top. The back of this tee is cut very low.

Fleeting Seas top XS Navy

This is a nice little tee. Fit well, loose in the waist without being baggy, fitted in the chest, cute neckline. However, it’s not really anything to sing about and the 3/4 sleeves are pretty worthless in winter. Should have been a Spring piece. I’m not sure why this is not available to order on the website anymore, strange.

Sweetheart Shrug tee Small Turquoise

First of all, sweetheart necklines are awesomeness. I luvs them. But in this stretchy tee material it’s a little hard to wear. I grabbed the size Small because this type of fabric usually hates my tummy but the cut in the neckline was too big. I kept having to adjust and pull up the top to prevent my bra from peeking out. I don’t know that the XS will work for me though because it is already clingy enough the stomach. Plus the way the ruching ends and leaves a flat piece of material laying right across the belly pooch, ugh it’s tough.

Slung Sash tee Small black (XS red below)

Another great neckline in the slung sash tee. I grabbed the size Small and XS. The small in black is so long it could almost be a dress.

The XS in Red was not much shorter. When I pull the top up and let it gather around the waist, the clinginess combined with all that extra fabric, made me feel thick. On one hand, I love the neckline. On the other, I think this top made my chest look flat and my hips wide. If it ever makes it to sale, I’d probably pick up the black in XS.

This is part 2 of my Anthropologie reviews catch up and I think I finally have all the pics cleaned out of my camera lol. I’m staying home (and being good after some online purchases) this weekend but I’ll probably head out to Anthro next Friday in hopes of spotting some of the newer items. If you have a review request, leave a comment and I will try to look for it next week.

I sized up to a Small for the Contoured crewneck since it is very cropped. I love the emerald green and the soft fabric. I’m a sucker for extra long sleeves in a sweater too. I’m not sure if the scooped out front cut works for me. I’d like to try it will a darker top underneath, maybe even something a little more flowy. Although soft and snuggly, I’m not so sure about the fabric blend. The sweater is 25% merino wool, 25% nylon, 25% viscose, 10% tencil, 10% ptt ( a new poly), and 5% cashmere. The questionable durability of those poly’s means I’ll wait for sale.

Unknown sweater Sz Small $98

The beautiful wine color made my snatch up this sweater but the fit is disappointing! Love the neckline, it’s a nice change. Anthro rarely does vnecks. But the crosshatching fabric adds too much thickness to the stomach and looks positively lumpy. Love the ruffle at the bottom, hate the weird cut out in the middle! Nice fabric content though, 92% cotton, 8% merino wool.

Frilled Echlons peacoat Sz 2

Holy human cupcake! I decided to try this coat on in the size 2 since I knew it ran very short. Uh, that was a mistake. I’m being completely swallowed by the ruffles. Even if I tried the size 0, I do not see this coat working for me. All the ruffles are right at the thickest part of the waist. With the large buttons and large collar (which I would love on another jacket) it is all too overwhelming, especially all those details being concentrated in such a small area. I love the saturated blue shade but I’m not a fan of the fabric. It’s not quite boiled wool, but it’s the same sort of scraggly looking wool, instead of polished and expensive looking. The blend is 75% polyester and 25% wool, with a nice butterfly print cotton lining.

Graublau Blazer Sz 2

I grabbed the Graublau blazer in a size 2 since more often than not I am finding Anthro blazers too small in the chest and shoulders in a size 0. I really need a new blazer, so I had hopes for this one! Unfortunately, I found it boxy and itchy! It is actually fully lined with a thin striped cotton in the body and acetate in the sleeves and yet, I could feel the itch through the lining. The fabric used in the lining was really sad. Very plain, and flat out ugly in the sleeves. No piping, no special touches in this blazer. Fabric is 52% polyester, 48% wool.

Ruffled Shell Sz 2

Finally something that wasn’t completely disappointing, this is the Ruffle Shell in a size 2. It’s a little too low in the arm holes but I think a size 0 would be too tight in the chest. I wanted to try on the red but my store was already selling out of it. The pink is very pretty but requires a cami. I wish there was a tiny bit more saturation in the pink but I don’t think it washed me out. I can just see this being a great wear to work blouse for many ladies. Not sure how I feel about the fabric. It is 100% rayon and has a textured feel. It does not look cheap but $78 is asking a bit much.

I don’t have a lot to say about this skirt. It was nice but just not exciting. The fabric is soft and the fit in the size 2 is very comfortable, maybe a little big. I think the Aline shape is just not my thing. If it was actually a pencil skirt I may have been more into it. The Sepviva blouse is a lovely deep wine shade. I like the banding at the bottom and on the sleeves. With the neckline open it is pretty cute but buttoned up and tied it looked terrible on me. Also, the waist tends to climb up.

This is a really well cut shirtdress. I love the buttons up the front, they open up just enough with out being too revealing. The waist fit is pretty and it has some nice pleating down the front of the skirt without getting too poofy. Really well done, until we get to the side closure. Zips up until right above the waist, and then it snaps. Wth? How I am suppose to snap it closed over my chest with one hand? I had no patience for even trying, so I just held the dress closed lol. The fabric is substantial and not see through but there is no lining. A missed opportunity for those pretty little touches I look for at Anthro.

Can I just ask, why is everything at Anthro called a pullover? This is clearly a tshirt ad many other “pullovers” are clearly sweaters. I don’t get it. Anyway, I tried this tee on in the XS. It is very form fitting but didn’t appear to be see through. However the fabric is very thin and I would be too paranoid about showing tummy lumps in it. I love the color though, so next time I’m in store I think I’ll try sizing up to the Small. The fabric is 70% modal, 30% wool and it has small shoulder pads, which I thought was weird lol.

I was intrigued by the buckles, so I grabbed this coat on my way to the dressing room. I had no idea that it was $498! Apparently you have to pay almost $500 to get a 100% wool coat nowadays.. When the SA saw me with it she said this coat was AMAZING. If by amazing she actually meant gargantuan, then yes I guess it is. This is the smallest size and it is a very full coat. I love the swingy skirt but with the huge collar and very full sleeves, it is all too much. The coat looks terrible unbelted or open, so cinching it tightly is the only option.

Here are the much loved AG stevies. I took my usual size 26 and the fit was great. These were probably the first pair of AGs that didn’t give me flat butt. Love the slightly washed out colors, love the ankle fit, love the stretchy but not cheap material. Big unfortunately, the rise on these is too low for me. Seriously I cannot sit comfortably in them, too much gaping in the back. So they are a complete no go. I am sad.

I love this tee. It’s 100% cotton and I took my usual size XS. Not too snug or short like a lot of Anthro tops these days. It’s 100% cotton, with material on the thicker side. Just the right amount of flourish on the shoulder. I’m waiting for sale.

Here and with the Bojagi top above I am wearing the Dapper and Dashing trousers. I took my usual pant size 2. These fit great and are very comfortable. Anthro is offering some great trousers this Fall. My only hesitation about these is the very large cuff at the ankle. What are you thoughts about that?

This is a cute little layering sweater. As you can see it is see through so it needs a tank under. I took the size XS which was a great fit. I really like this as a pattern mixing piece but I am not crazy about the material which is 35% viscose, 35% nylon, 20% cotton, and 10% wool.

This is the Thames pullover, I sized up to a small because it is another top that runs small and very short. I love the true red color and the texture. It looks a little awkward with pants but it would be really cute with a pencil skirt. It is oddly difficult to find a true red top, so I really want this one but I can’t see paying even the sweater sale price of $66. I’ll wait a little longer.

I have been dying to try on this skirt and finally found one in the navy. Too bad it looks terrible on me! I often wear a size 4 in pencil skirts so it’s not too surprising that this one was pulling across the hips in the size 2. But it’s really the button placement that is a problem and since it’s already too long, I can’t see it looking good in a larger size. Also do not like the way the front pocket bunches up and pooches out. The lining on this on is cute, so that’s something. Material is 64% polyester, 14% rayon, and 2% spandex. Certainly not great for the price, although it didn’t feel cheap. Would much rather have seen this in the brown because the navy makes me feel like a flight attendant.

Okay yeah, this runs kind of huge. There’s probably enough room for two of me in the smallest size but the material feels nice (50% cotton, 25% nylon, 25% wool) and it is so snuggly! Might be worth it on sale….Then I showed DH and he said “oh hellllz no”. Humph

I have been trying on a lot of jeans the last couple months, in search of a great pair. Posting denim reviews is kind of useless since they fit so different for each person but I thought I’d share anyway. This is a long post, prepare yourself lol.
This first batch of pics are crappy because as you can see, I am using my phone and it is the suck. Pics get better later though.

JBrand Bette sz 27
I sized up to a 27 in these jeans because that is my new MO to prevent thigh gripping in most brands besides Joes. As you can see they are way too big! I need my regular size 26 or maybe even size down to the 25. Keeping the size issue in mind, I quite like these jeans.

HA! Tucked in these veers scarily into 70s Mom jean territory, very Farrah at least lol. But I never, ever tuck in so that doesn’t really concern me. I love the pockets. If you’re prepared to own the retro look, check them out.

~~

JBrand Lovestory sz 27
Here I sized up with more success. Like a lot of JBrand’s denim, these are quite stretchy. I really love the look of these from the front.

Unfortunately, from the back it is the same old JBrand story for me, saggy in the butt and too big in the waist.
~~

I already have the Joe’s Visionaire boot cut and I really love them but they do stretch out and get baggy in the knees after a few wears. I tried the Vision flare on looking for a more dramatic leg and sleeker fit. They fit tts and are more stylish, less casual. The leg though is very fitted in the thigh and all the way through the knee. A tight knee is pretty unusual for Joe’s.
These are the Check crops that you’ve seen me wear in the last couple posts. I tried on the size 0 and 2. The smaller size fit as well but more of a legging style. I went with the size 2 for a less hugging fit through the legs and a tiny bit more room in the rise These are a little big in the waist but nothing a skinny belt can’t fix.

J.Crew High rise skinny sz 26
These JC skinnys have a ton of elastic in them and the dye is off in my opinion. Both points made them look and feel cheap. Still, they look pretty good from the front, the fit is like a legging. Unfortunately the back view was a nightmare. All that stretch in the denim gave me roll-y lumpy butt instead of smoothing things out. I can’t believe these are $125.

~~~
JCrew Boot leg sz 26R
These jeans have a much more flattering fit and the denim color is much better. A true denim dark blue. But the material is very stiff. Overall they remind me very much of pair of AG Stilts I have.
Here again I sized up to prevent thigh grip. I have a pair of Paige Hidden Hills already. I don’t know if it’s just the different wash but these have a MUCH thinner denim. Pretty disappointed about that.
Overall I like the fit but they still feel a little tight in the thigh and they are a bit big in the waist. Still, they make my butt look smaller, can’t argue with that. I also tried on a pair of Paiges in the Bell canyon cut and those were bad, bad, bad. Much too low of a rise.
~~~

Like the JBrands I tried on earlier, I size up in these 7s and they look pretty good from the front.

But it’s saggy bottom and big waist in the back.
~~~
Joe’s Visionaire high rise skinny Becca wash Sz 26
Last pair yay! You may remember from my Fall wishlist I was looking for a pair of new black skinnies but had little hope of finding a pair. These Joe’s fit great. I am loving all the Visionaires.
These are super fitted like leggings but unlike leggings the view in the back is good too. The denim is soft with stretch but not too elastic feeling.
So that is my denim round up. Besides the Checked Crops which you already know I bought, I brought home one pair. Can you guess which one?
