Outfits

Wearing: Color layers

Now that summer, my least favorite fashion season, is over, I am thinking about bringing back the occasional ootd post. I probably won’t make the posts private but I will crop them and probably delete off my server after a couple weeks. I delete so they don’t end up on Ebay or just float forever on the interwebs.

Problem with my outfits though, is they are pretty boring visually. I know this lol, but I am well past the dressing up for the blog stage. There will be no crazy ass blogger outfits, only real life. Which, I’ll face it, is not as interesting. Also, I wear jeans or pants 6 days a week. So there will be few cutie skirt looks, although I do occasionally like to dress like a human cupcake.

So let me know your thoughts. Is there a point to posting what I actually wear or are blogs better suited for living a dream?

Today’s outfit I was not even going to photos because it’s basically jeans and a sweater, how exciting is that lol. But once I added the cropped jacket and arm warmers that went with the peeking out black tee, I started to like the layers of color.

Anthro jacket (do not know the name)
JCrew peony cashmere sweater
Anthro boy tee
Sock dreams arm warmers
Joe’s Visionaire jeans
Antelope booties

Wearing: Yesterday and Today

Thanks for all the welcome backs ladies! I will post more details about my trip soon. It’s still spinning around my head. In the meantime, here are a couple pics of what I wore yesterday and today.

I don’t like this sweater much really. I love the color but do not like all those ruffles on my hips. This is probably one that I should have returned but oh well. I do like the contrast of the girlie top and boyish shoes.

I am wearing this little jacket everyday. I wore it daily on my trip as well. It is much colder here than it was in London and Paris though! So I ended up changing into my J.Crew cashmere sweater in the same color later in the day.

Yesterday: Anthropologie Recital cardigan, Anthro Lift-off jacket, Joes Visionaire jeans, Frye carson oxfords

BTW- I love that I can look up all my old orders on Anthro’s website because I can never remember the names of anything.

I don’t know if I mentioned that I went ahead and bought the Temperate climes pullover before I left. Well, I did and I don’t feel the least bit bad that it’s on sale now because I’ve worn it 4 or 5 times already. It is very short, so I always wear a tank underneath.

Today:  Anthro Temperate climes pullover, Paige skyline jeans, Frye veronica slough boot, Marc by marc jacobs petal to the metal Natasha, H&M scarf

Too perfect…

The other day I was getting ready to go out shopping. I had put together an outfit with my Lost time skirt, ascending roses top, a little black cardigan, and black herringbone tights.

It was oh so sweet, and my immediate reaction was to screw it up with my brown oxford shoes. My 7 year old daughter was quite disgusted with me. She said the outfit was very pretty and it needed a very pretty heel. Or, she would allow me to wear boots. I’m sure she was right but I just couldn’t stand how perfect the outfit was, so I changed into skinny jeans, the oxfords, and I don’t even remember what top.

I’ve gotten to know my own style a lot better in the last year, mainly due to taking photos for the blog. Looking back and realizing what I continue like vs which outfits I laugh at or don’t think are actually me. The more I get to know myself, the more freely I embrace the contrast that I love in an outfit. Even if it means, to others, the look is totally disconnected. I don’t care if my shoes match or if my hand bag is totally the wrong color. In fact, I’d rather that they didn’t match. I like to wear brown, black, and grey all mixed up together. One benefit of living in a small  town is it gives me a bit of a fashion superiority complex and I don’t give a f- what other people think about what I am wearing lol. If an outfit doesn’t look good, it looks, at least, interesting. I’m not caving to pajama jeans and a t-shirt. Sometimes too, I know an outfit isn’t completely flattering. That it makes me look short or a little hippy, but so what. Does fashion always have to be about looking as tall and as skinny as possible? I’d rather have fun with my clothes.

Today’s outfit is a contrast of cruddy grey sweatshirt with pretty lacey tank. Sleek dark denim with “ugly” shoes. And oh yes, peach socks. It’s highly questionable whether the shoes or socks go and if the sweatshirt is flattering, and I love that.

What about you? Do you like to look perfectly pulled together? Do you worry that people will giggle and think you got dressed in the dark if your shoes or bag don’t match your outfit? Or do you just grab a bunch a stuff you love from your closet and figure, it’ll work!
